Ok, since I was pregnant and dealing with newborns all of last year we didn't go anywhere on vacation.
TOTALLY unlike me!! (We normally take 3-4 vacations a year.) Anyways, I've decided that we are going to go in March and now I'm stressing wondering how I'm going to do EVERYTHING!!
DH & I have been there before, but never paid attention to those with kids. I'm pretty sure that they will be able to get on most of the rides, but what about the stroller?? Where does that go? Do you park it outside & hope it doesn't get stolen or is there a spot to park it as you get on the ride? Same with shows I'm guessing?? I can't believe I never paid attention to stuff like this!! The whole time I was pregnant, I would have dreams of this day and now I'm stressing out over it. My sister will be coming along to help out, but please tell me this is all do-able and I'm not nuts for taking 2 10month olds to Disney.
I also worry about the whole airport thing and I'm a VERY seasoned traveler!! I just never watched or paid attention to what parents dealt with. I will gladly accept all advice!! TIA!
Re: Disney with twins... HELP!!
go do disboards.com There is a whole board there for family travel.
I know they have stroller parker outside of rides and shows. We haven't done Disney yet but we have been to a large amusement park with older DS. We just parked the stroller outside the ride in the stroller parking area and reclaimed it when we were done with the ride.
Are you staying on site? Doesn't Disney have Magic Express or something like that? They will pick you up at the airport and bring you to your hotel. If you checked any bags you won't even have to to go baggage claim...the bags will magically show up at your hotel!
There are quite a few moms on my local Nest board who have arranged for stroller rentals so they don't have to worry about their stroller getting lost or damaged. There are a couple companies that rent nice strollers(I think City Minis) and deliver it right your hotel.
I would highly recommend an ergo type carrier for the airport. Since there is no metal you can wear them all the way through boarding. We flew when Avery was 3 months old and will again tomorrow. I prefer the carrier to the stroller.
If you take the stroller through security you will have to unload and then fold it up, send it through the scanner and then reload on the other side. You can check a stoller and carseat without it counting as a piece of checked baggage.
Don't worry, you're going to do great!!!
We're heading to Disney for a couple of days in April - Layla will be 10 months - I can't wait!!
We have flown to Florida (from Philadelphia) 4 times so far with LO - it's been great. Much better then antipated - for us, night flights are much better - she has slept the entire time. The only flight she was awake was this past Monday but we flew at 9 AM (she was awake about half the flight) - it was tough but we made it work.
We bring our chicco travel system (carseat and stroller) up to the gate. I think when we go to disney we will only bring our city mini as it's easier, lighter, etc.
Good luck!!
everyone has great advice! seriously, you'll be fine
i went with J in sept at 3 mo and it was AMAZING! and the weather will be perfect for you guys! something that helped with us: we would do 2 rides tops, then a show or shop. just to break it up.
look on the disboards, look at the baby swap rides, i would def bring a carrier for the airport (honestly there were many times i just had the carrier in the parks.)
there is stroller parking EVERYWHERE. get a rain cover and even if it looks clear put it on when you park. make a tag for your stroller with your name and phone number.
are you staying on site and taking the magical express? b.c you can just gate check your stroller and carrier/carseat.
you can also rent a stroller when you're down there. the prices were pretty reasonable.
going through security was challenging for us b.c we packed entirely in carry-on. i'd suggest checking luggage. it will make life easier. just go through with your diaper bags. and let them know if you need help. stoller and car seat need to go on the belt. you carry LOs through the metal detector. that might be tough if it's just you and DH with both LO, but again ask for assistance.
i'm jealous! i wish we were going this spring! we have to wait til next January.
Ditto all the suggestions so far. We've flown up and down the east coast with DS 4 times already. We found it easiest to put him in the Ergo and check in our stroller and car seat. Only bring enough diapers/ food you need for the plane tide and buy the rest at your destination. In your case, it might be easier to rent baby gear. Also, cabs/car service have car seats so you don't have to bring your own if you don't want to. If you stay on Disnry property I am pretty sure they have this available as well, just call ahead.
I've seen areas for strollers to park at every ride. However, I am not a trusting person and buy a super cheap umbrella stroller to use at the parks. I just know myself and I would be livid if someone walked off with my stroller. And yes, keep all valuables on you or in a locker.
Enjoy! I was going to hold off on bringing DS to Disney but we are do close I might go there very soon.
Lots of great advice already and no worries its very doable with little kids. We are local so we do disney a lot. Just wanted to add your stroller will be fine parked outside of the rides in the stroller spots, disney cast members sometimes rearrange the stroller to fit more in, so there is normally someone manning the area. They have very few issues of stealing items but please dont leave cameras/purses or items that look valuable with your stroller. We've found it best to pack a bag for all the baby supplies and a separate small bag for valuables. That way you can grab the small bag for rides and not have to tote diapers, bottles and coats on with you.
There are lots of rides the kids can do even at that age, just take your time and enjoy. Also fast passes and baby swap is your friend.
**Siggy Challenge What You're Looking Forward to Most after Baby Arrives**
Cannot recommend disboards enough. It is a GREAT resource for newbies and vets alike. I briefly read through the other responses and everyone has great advice, too. Here's my two cents:
Stay on-site.
Use the magical express from the airport and the shuttle buses to the parks.
Rent a Baby Jogger City Mini Double from an online stroller rental service. There are a couple out there, just Google. The quick fold will be great for getting on and off the buses.
I can't find the bog entry I'm about to reference, but I remember reading about one family that packed their big diaper bag and left it in the stroller at all time and them had a smaller one (like the skip hop clutch style) that they had with them at all times. I'm guessing with twins that would translate to two med/large bags and a small backpack for quick changes.
Take advantage of the infant care centers at each park.
HAVE FUN! I haven't been to Disney since right before we got pregnant and I'm dying to go again soon. So jealous.
If you have any other Disney questions, just let us know, looks like there are plenty of Disney crazies on this board.
Thanks girls for all the valuable information!!
Yes, we are staying on site and will be taking advantage of the Magical Express. We will also be taking advantage of the parent swap, but I will have my sister with us to help out. As for the lines, we all know they can get fairly long... For those that brought carriers and those that didn't how was your back?? I know the times I've been before kids my back killed me at the end of the day so I can only imagine!! As for a diaper bag, we pack one big bag full of everything we need for the day, but I definitely won't be bringing my Coach bag!! While parking the stroller to get on rides/shows, did you just leave the diaper bag with the stroller?
Now that I'm thinking about it, I remember seeing one big lot of stroller parking across from the Peter Pan ride. LOL I'm sure we will be fine, but this will also be my sisters 1st time, so I want to make the most of it for her and the twins. We have taken them everywhere from the beginning so I know they won't have a problem adjusting.
Also, we plan on taking advantage of the PNP they have on site. Did any of you use this?? And how were they? Were they clean and well kept??
