Big Boy Rooms ideas

We are in the middle of making Preston's a "big boy room" so Brady will get Preston's old room (it is Mickey Mouse and since Brady is obsessed with Mickey it is just easier to move him) and Preston will have bunk beds in his room.

Here is what the bunk beds look like

Now I am trying to decide how to decorate Preston's room!

Cars (Dh wants McQueen but I am okay with non disney)

Firetrucks

Cowboys

Pirates

Surfers

Sports (this would be either Yankees, ny Giants, or Alabama)

Re: Big Boy Rooms ideas

  • Sports (even though you have bad team tastes Stick out tongue) will probably grow the longest with him.

If you do a cars, cowboy or firetruck theme you will probably have to redecorate at around 7 - 10 years old about.

    I love the bunk bed!

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • I vote for Sports.   When we change Nicholas' room we are doing a Yankees Room.

My second choice would be Cars.

  • I vote pirates, because i think those bunks (which are awesome!) already look a little ship-like!!
  • I vote for whatever Preston wants, but I really LOVE those bunkbeds!  Great storage!

Preston keeps changing his mind! One day he says Cars and another he said Roll Tide (which means Alabama)

  • Maybe do Cars and throw in a few accent pillows/pictures, whatever of Alabama.  I just googled the colors and you might be able to make it work.

  • With Claire's room and my two stepchildren, I used relatively neutral room colors (pink-Claire, blue-J, and lavender-M) and then used accent stuff for the theme.  That way, when they change their minds (in a week, month or year), it's not too hard to change.  I didn't bother with borders, lamps, or furniture for theme stuff.

  • I also vote for pirates. Love the bunk! Where from?

Agreed. We are doing a transportation (likely nautical) theme for Graeme but the actual quilt and what not will be primary colors so we can change the sheeting and decorations as he ages. I know he would love Cars but I feel like it doesn't age well.

  • First, we have that bunkbed! I love it!   We did trucks & cars, not disney just stuff from Target.  I did pick a more generic bed spread in case they want to change things later on.
  • Ok, first of all, I LOVE that bunk bed! Do you know who the manufacturer is? I saw above that you are getting it from "bob's", but I have no idea what that is and I'm sure we don't have one around here.

We are getting ready to put together Henry's big boy room and we are doing a John Deere theme. That kid LOVES tractors tho, so it wasn't a hard choice. I'm sure we'll have to redecorate in a few years, but no matter what we pick, I'm sure that will be the case.

Not knowing your child, I like sports themes for boys. They seem to have a longevity over disney or stuff like cowboys and pirates.

Post pictures when you are done! I can't wait to see what you end up doing.

I am not sure how is the manufacturer, it might be Bob's own line but if you google Colorado Stairway Bunk Bed a lot of similar ones come up! We picked this because if we ever do decide to put the boys together we could use this set or for when we have overnight guest the boys could sleep in Preston's room and the guest in Brady's.

  • I think pirates would be awesome!  The color scheme could be very neutral gray and then bring in the rest of the pirate theme through lots of decor type items and hangings etc!
