4mo shots and being "whiny"

DS got his 4mo shots while we were at the doctor on Monday.  He doesn't have a fever and doesn't act like he's in pain...he's just being fussy or "whiny."  I heard from a woman at our baby storytime group yesterday that the 4mo shots were the worst for her daughter too, but I was wondering if anyone else had this experience?  He did beautifully with his 2mo shots.  I just can't seem to make him happy...even when he's smiling he's making a "whiny" noise.  He hasn't been sleeping well the past few nights so that could be a big part of the problem (or napping well for that matter).  I'm just wondering at what point I should call the doctor since he doesn't have a fever and doesn't seem to be in pain.

Re: 4mo shots and being "whiny"

  • Definitely typical.  DS did AWFUL with the 2month shots (we gave them at 4 months) he fell asleep afterwords then woke up about 2 hours later screaming.  He screamed for hours and hours.

It's possible his leg is sore, or itchy and is just uncomfortable.  TBH without a fever or seeming like he's in pain there isn't much a doctor can do.  I would give it until 24 hours after the vaccines to gage his reaction.

  • I don't know anything specific about the shots, but the 4 month ones were the only shots that L had a fever for the following 3 days. All other rounds of shots he's done just fine. Maybe a coincidence? Hope babe gets back to normal soon.

I'm so glad to see this happened to someone else...we had no idea what was going on- but my DS fell asleep at 730-woke up at 9 and screamed as if he was in pain until almost 3 that morning off and on- nothing we did seemed to help....I have no additional advice but wanted you to know that my DS had issues with his 4 month shots as well-actually ever since he hasnt slept very well at night :(

  • Thanks everyone!  DS finally seems back to normal today.  He's all smiles and wanting to snuggle again. :)
