TTC after 35

lots to process at work

1.  I told my boss that I would be leaving my job at the end of the spring semester.  I feel just awful about it, because I have a really wonderful boss and I love my job.  But the distance is too much (those who know me know my husband lives 1500 miles away), especially as we pursue more complex TTC procedures.  I can't help but think how pissed I will be if we don't end up having success TTC and I have essentially flushed my career down the drain.

2.  My wonderful co-worker who has been commiserating with me about TTC told me that she was pregnant.  I am so, so happy for her and her husband!  And she was so sweet when she told me -- very sensitive and kind.

These two major things caused me to go straight to the cupcake shop, where I proceeded to eat two peanut butter chocolate cupcakes...I am considering going to the liquor store and getting a bottle of wine...or two for tonight.

  • Cupcakes and wine sound good to me!

I know this is so tough on you right now with everything so unsettled. I hope that once you get to Austin and you and your husband get into a good routine that everything will fall in place for you.

I have to ask a dumb question though. Maybe I missed this from before.... how is it that you and your husband live so far apart?

My husband was working in DC and I took my current job (in Philly) to be close to him.  He lost his job 4 months after I moved here. Then he moved to Austin (where I had moved away from -- very gift of the Magi).   Unfortunately, neither one of us has very transferable skills -- I am a university professor in a very niche subject, and he has worked in politics his whole career.

  • I really truly believe all the cupcake shops in the world opened because of us TTC'ers.

It does sound like a lot of process but maybe a change or two is just what you need.  I wish you nothing but the best luck!

  • Good luck on figuring out your work situation, owlprof!  So happy for you that you'll be living with your husband again, though.  I'm sure you'll find a way to have it all work out.  Any chance you can get hired at UT?
  • Owlprof, I have to tell you...every time I see your screen name, my mind reads owl proof instead of prof. Like you have now protected yourself against owls. It makes me giggle.

I can't imagine how difficult it has been being away from your DH.  Best of luck in finding an awesome University job in Texas!
