Fairview Southdale/OBGYN West reviews?

With my first daughter, I was with Oakdale OBGYN the entire time, and delivered at the new Maple Grove North Memorial hospital. Absolutely loved my OB, and loved the hospital. However, my OB has since left Oakdale, and not only that, Oakdale is no longer in my network for insurance.

 

I had my very first visit with Dr. Teigen with OBGYN West a few weeks ago and I really liked him, and he told me they deliver at Fairview Southdale. I've only been there once and it was not a pleasant experience... I'm hoping their Delivery & OB is much better than my first experience there when I had pnuemonia & swine flu a few years ago. I really haven't been too big a fan of Fairview as it is in the past...

 

Any insight would be great! :)

    I go to OB West and have Dr Teigen! I think he's great.... They also deliver at Waconia depending on where you are you might want to check that out too... We did a hospital tour at Southdale and I HATED the vibe I got there... Rooms don't look updated and the nurses "seemed" mean... But I don't know what they are really like. We toured Waconia and LOVED it! We live in Plymouth and I AM going to make the trip down there... fingers crossed but the feeling I got at Southdale I didn't love it and I didn't want to have my experience there... That's my 2 cents.

    I have seen Dr Teigen and I really like him.

    I delivered at Southdale and liked it. Most of the nurses I encountered were very nice. I will/would deliver there again.

    Fairview Southdale has one of the highest C-section rates in the area, which was a huge red flag for me.

    I changed from my OB who delivers at Southdale to the Midwife group at Methodist and didn't look back.  One of the best decisions I ever made.

    I delivered at Fairview Southdale and had a great experience. The nurses were great and I am planning on delivering there if we have another child.

    My OB is through Western OB, but I have delivered 2 babies at Ridgeview in Waconia and it's a fabulous facility! Recently updated, brand new birthing suites and rooms, great staff! Maybe one of the only downfalls (if you care about this, we didn't) is because it's a smaller hospital, the cafeteria isn't open all that late (in case DH or guests want to get something to eat there). Ridgeview is a great hospital!

    I live in Plymouth, too! He did mention the other hospital but I honestly had no idea where it was. Where is Waconia in reference to Plymouth (I live a bit closer to Minnetonka, but technically it's Plymouth)?

    When I went into Fairview Southdale a few years ago, I had a temperature of 105 and the nurse sent me home with tylenol. I was throwing up, chills, high temp, etc, and she was so RUDE to me. I was crying, and even the doctor was pretty rude. I came back an hour later when my temp had reached 107 even after 4 tylenol and I got the same nurse. Not only did she roll her eyes at me, but she insisted I take a wheel chair (No idea why?), and then rammed me into the desk in the ER without any apology. Like I'd done something to her! I ended up staying for two weeks with swine flu & pneumonia. It was terrible!

    Waconia is west - out past Chaska. Probably pretty far from Plymouth not that Edina is super close either.

    I had to go to the hospital a # of times during my last pregnancy and only ran into 1 nurse I didn't care for - she wasn't mean just overly touchy/annoying. The rest were pretty good or great.

    Sounds like you had a horrible experience - I don't blame you for you concerns.

    I have nothing but great things to say about Fairview Southdale.  The delivery nurses were calming and very supportive.  The post partum nurses were very helpful, especially with my breastfeeding questions.  I had both boys there.

    I just delivered at Southdale with Dr. Teigen in October and have nothing but praise. I ended up having an emergency c/s after 2 hours of pushing and NO progress at all (Eli was sunny side up and his head was just waaay too big to make it through my pelvic bone). I LOVE Dr. Teigen and his nurse. Both are really helpful and really care about their patients.

     I actually delivered DD at Maple Grove with a different doctor and liked my experience at Southdale much better.

    I have nothing but positive comments to make about the hospital as well as Dr. Teigen. He was awesome during labor! He was a great motivator. I liked all of the nurses and the care I got at Fairview Southdale.

    I saw Dr. Larson at OBGYN West before my pregnancy and during it...I loved her.  I delivered at FVS and for the most part was very happy.  My L&D nurse was Angie and she was awesome, very supportive and encouraging.  LO had some issues getting around my pelvis and was turned the wrong way, but with some odd positioning she was able to turn around and I avoided a c-section.  Dr. Grootwassink ended up doing my delivery as Dr. Larson had just come off her on-call shift.  For the most part I loved the nurses at the hospital, but I was very unhappy with the support that I received from the lacation nurse/consultant that I met with.  LO was considered late pre-term so she would latch then fall asleep and the LC that we met with for maybe 15 minutes didn't offer any advice and I ended up getting really frustrated with the whole process and exclusively pumped for 6 months.  If we have another baby, I may consider going to the hospital in Waconia.

    I just delivered at Ridgeview Waconia and LOVED my experience. Dr. Larson is my doc at OB GYN West but she wasn't in town when I went into labor. I highly recommend both OB GYN West AND Ridgeview Waconia!

    Teigen AND Southdale are amazing. I've delivered there twice, and once my child was in the special care nursery. I'll have all kids there!

    Thank you so much everyone for your input!! I think I've decided to stick with Dr. Teigen and just make the trip to Waconia! I just get a much better feeling and vibe from there than with Southdale.

    I didn't go to the same clinic but delivered at Southdale and had a fabulous experience, from the nurses to the doc on call, the LC, and everyone in between! The only reason we won't be delivering there this time around is that we have since moved to Chan, so Waconia is closer to us now.
