Babies: 6 - 9 Months

I feel we are falling behind.

DS just turned 6 months today and I feel like we are slacking when seeing all these posts. He just started Sttn (for all of a week), we just started solids two weeks ago and hasn't had anything other than cereal (he will try squash tomorrow), he doesn't roll (did a couple of times but that was over a month ago). This isn't his fault but I hope it's not mine either. I work full time and hope that isn't effecting him. My mom DH and MIL watch him and I know they are playing and interacting with him. He is babbling and sitting unsupported so I guess that is a good thing. Tell me I am worrying for nothing!

Re: I feel we are falling behind.

  • As you know, every baby sets his/ her own pace developmentally.

At 6 mos., I just started giving DS rice cereal, and he didn't roll, despite all of the tummy time I gave him.  As for STTN, DS has been doing so since 2 wks old.  We were lucky there.

Currently, DS rolls all over, and eats a full array of purees.  He's not keen on texture but we're working on it.  Same story with the sippy cup.  Many babies his age are eating finger food and using a sippy cup.  I'm not worried- I just keep trying.

Oh- and I'm a SAHM who actively takes part in DS' development any way I can.  So don't worry!  I'm sure your DS will do things when he is good and ready.  Person

  • You are worrying for nothing! :)

My kid is the only 8.5 month old I know that isn't crawling or saying mama. Whatever! He'll do it when he feels like it.I don't even think he started sitting until at least 7.5 months. They all do things at different rates, no worries.

DS turned 6 months last week; he's only been sttn for a few weeks, and it's not consistent, we've only fed him real food 4 times, and while he CAN roll, he doesn't do it all that often. Our babes are still so young, there's plenty of time for all that stuff. :)

  • We are just getting going with solids here too. I was in no hurry to get started and am not going to rush it. We have done cereal for a couple weeks and added sweet potato last week. She had squash for the first time yesterday. DD had a phase where she liked to roll and move but now she would much rather be sitting up than on her tummy or back. When she is on her back she looks like she is doing one really long crunch because she is trying to hard to sit herself up. Your DS will be rolling around as soon as he is ready and figures out he has places to go!

  • Yup, all babies are different.  Nephew: Didn't walk until 17 months and never crawled.  STTN since 13 months.

My baby: Rolling, crawling, cruising very early.  STTN since 3 1/2 months.

  • I wouldn't worry about it! Your kid is just fine!

Every baby is different like pp said. I also know tons of babies that skip stages entirely.

And remember what happens here in Bumpland is not indicative of IRL. ;)

Tell me about it.  Tongue Tied

OP, I wouldn't worry.  DS 1 was behind on pretty much everything.  Crawling, walking, and definitely talking.  He is 3 now and has caught up and then some.  I'm sure your LO is fine!  :)

  • I think you are worrying for nothing. My DD is nowhere near sttn :( shes up every 2 hours or so. She eats baby food but doesnt swallow all that much yet, and she rolls when she wants to - which can be a few days or a week apart. I'm not worried, all babies have thier own pace and my DD is sitting, laughing, and has great hand control so I figure shes mastering some skills before moving on to others.

  • DS sounds like he was exactly where you DS is developmentally when he was just 6 months old. It's fine! Some babies are just not big rollers - mine STILL isn't. He would rather sit and play with toys. He CAN roll though, like you said. We didn't start fruits/veggies until 6 months either.
