We waited until just about 6 months to start solids and she was very interested in the beginning. We did a combination of purees and finger foods. About a month later, her interest decreased and just went down and down from there.
Two weeks ago, we got her to start eating yogurt pretty consistently. But a week later she got ear infections in both ears and a really bad respiratory infection that requires her to take the nebulizer 3 times a day and is once again completely refusing food.
We have tried for finger foods, whole wheat pasta, bread, bread with hummus, avocado, banana, strawberry, apple, blueberry, mango, apricot, peaches, raisins, peas, green beans, sweet potato, corn, zucchini, squash, mozz. cheese, american cheese, cheddar cheese, ground chicken/turkey, chicken/turkey and a few others. Pretty much when we sit down for dinner, I put a little bit on her tray and at times, will give her purees with a spoon to see how that goes.
She sits with her mouth closed (unless of course cheerios appear - the only thing she will eat at this point).
Anyone else running in to this? I try to remind myself "Food before one is for fun." And I don't want to make food an issue, so I let her sit with us while we eat and she will kind of just play and eventually get out of her high chair. She is EBF and takes bottles with a babysitter while I'm at work.
Re: DD still has very little interest in solids
My son isn't really into solids yet either. In fact, it's only been in the last few days that I have been able to get a decent amount in him.
Just remember your daughter is getting everything she needs in your breast milk. Until a year solids are for fun and to get used to the texture and to practice with!
We're in the same boat. Bailey is barely eating any food. She refuses anything from the spoon so we have been doing BLW and she does eat some but not nearly as much as other babies. I too try to tell myself that food under one is just for fun, but I worry as we approach one year that she's going to be behind in terms of eating.
The only thing she'll actively eat is puffs. She loves avocado so that usually gets in her mouth but she just gums at most things and they usually fall into her lap or onto the bib. I'm sure we'll get there but I share your worry/frustration.
I am going to see what her pedi says at her 9-month appt.
Someone's getting a little brother!
This week was a turning point for Genevieve. Although she has always been interested in food, she never wanted to actually eat any.
It seems like something just clicked for her, and suddenly she wanted food. I have been able to get her to eat 4-5 bites of food each day this week. Still not a lot, but she is actively eating.
We just followed her cues, and took it slow. We offer a combination of BLS and purees. Don't sweat it mama, our LOs will eat when they are ready. They still have 3 months to figure it out. Just think about how much they have learned in the last three months.
