This is all normal, BH stuff right?

Sometimes, my stomach/abdomen (pretty much the whole thing) gets super hard and tight.  This typically tends to last from just a couple of seconds to awhile (well, maybe like a couple of minutes).  It doesn't really hurt but is uncomfortable. These are BH, right?

Lately, I've been having some period like crampiness (not cramps, per se, just that uncomfortable almost painful achy feeling) in my very lower abdomen/pelvic area and my lower back.  This sometimes hurts just on it's own and sometimes happens at the same time as the BH.  There is no on and off to it, it's just general achiness.  Is this just my body stretching out and being uncomfortable?  I'm figuring that that's the case.  I have an appt tomorrow so I'll ask about it, I guess I just wanted to see if you all agree that it's just normal pregnancy gripes.

  • Early contractions felt just like mild period cramps to me. You may be getting close! I don't know about the BH because I never had any.

  • From what I understand (and remember) false labor never gets stronger and the contractions don't get closer together.

I've been having similar period-like cramps, low & in the front in the evenings.  I'm chalking that up to doing too much during the day/just being tired.  But I've heard that contractions start in your back and sorta wrap around, so the fact that you're having them front and back would really make me wonder.  The one big difference I remember between the real contractions I had last time v. the BH this time is this:  the real ones are like a wave.  They start in one place and radiate outward.  All the BH I've ever had were just my belling getting hard.

Does your midwife (I think that's who you see) do cervical exams?  It'd be interesting to know your progress tomorrow.  And (if you don't mind) report back tomorrow on what she says about the crampiness. I'm curious!

  • I've heard that contractions are like waves, too.  I'm not getting that feeling but maybe it's just getting going.  I just hope I don't feel like this for the next 3+ weeks.  I'm betting I will though.

I think they start cervical exams at 38 or 39 weeks but tomorrow I have my GBS swab so I may ask if she can do one while she's down there just because I'm curious.  I don't know if she will but either way, I'll update tomorrow and let you know what she says about the crampiness.   Maybe we're both on our way!

  • Just a SMIDGE further along than you, but I could have written this post a few weeks ago - except that tightening feeling has been happening to me now for several months.  It happened w/ my first too.  I've asked my Dr and he said those are BH.

Actual contractions (for me) felt just like menstrual cramps.  Dull at first, and then super super painful when I went into labor.  I've been having those dull ones for the past couple of weeks too- but it would be like 1 or 2 in a day.  Like yours, sometimes they coincide w/ the BH feeling of tightness and sometimes they did not.  Either way, your body is starting to get ready! :)
