December 2011 Moms

Any moms with PCOS?

I have a slight case of it, but it was enough to make it hard for us to conceive.  I had heard that after pregnancy it could clear up?  Is this true?  What are you going to do for birth control?  We want to have our kids be about 2 years apart but we had to have help conceiving after it took us over a year with no luck.  If you want kids close together, are you just going to skip the birth control all together?

Re: Any moms with PCOS?

  • I had PCOS and took Clomid to conceive the girls. I was told it was unlikely I'd get pregnant on my own again. I was on Lo-Seasonique for birth control and WHAMMY, I was pregnant. I had a tubal this time around.

If you want to wait, I'd take a full dose bc pill, nuva ring, or an IUD. Or if you do some version of the mini pill, make sure you take them at the same time every day.

  • i was on clomid for noah with the pcos. i don't want hormonal bc so i can see what happens to my cycle and the bc masks symptoms like anovulation, i want to go back on metformin to regulate my cycle and will ask my dr about a non-hormonal iud. if that isn't an option then condoms it is.

  • I had to take FSH injections to get pregnant (clomid didn't work). We will be using condoms for 6 months because anything is possible. Being pregnant could alter your hormone levels thereby possibly "curing" or controlling the PCOS.

  • We used condoms until we wanted to try for #2.  I must admit we also used the pull out method from time to time **hangs head in shame**  Once we were really ready to try, I went back on metformin and was pregnant within 4 months.  I will never use hormonal bc again.  It's just not for me and even though there is no true connection, I personally think it had something to do with my diagnosis of PCOS.

I have PCOS, I had to do injectables to get pregnant, now i am super scared of the PCOS coming back, I am going back on metformin and doing the PCOS diet

as for birth control, DH and I are done having kids, so hes getting a vasectomy soon

  • Clomid and Letrozol didn't work for me.  A week after the HSG, we got pregnant. This was our first baby.  We are not using any BC because the dr said that the sooner the better because he is not confident we will have an easy time having another.  If we get PG, we do. Ideally, I would like to get PG around DD's first birthday, but I will allow nature to decide.....
