When I woke up Thursday morning to go to the bathroom I noticed I was having some pain in my lower back, Already dilated to 3cm and 80% effaced my doctor did not plan on me going to the 16th. I went back to bed and then woke up and went to work. I kept noticing the slight twinge of pain, it really did not hurt and I was able to walk, talk, and work through it all. When I got home I mentioned to my aunt and birthing partner that I thought I may be having contractions since the pain had been coming and going all day. I took a shower and noticed I was having more contractions than I thought, so I got out of the shower and blow dryed my hair, (seriously, not too painful) and sat with my aunt so we could time these. With four contractions at four minutes apart, she made me go to the hospital. Being a first time mom, and not in any unbearable pain I did not want to get sent home. We arrived at 7:00p.m and it was obvious I was low priority to them since I did not look like I was in pain, a nurse finally got around to checking me at around 7:45pm after lecturing me about staying hydrated and how being dehydrated can make my uterus cramp and cause discomfort. Well that nurse immediately ate her words when she checked my cervix and I was already at 7cm. We then walked to my room where I was admitted and an epidural arrived since my contractions were getting more intense. After the epidural an on call doctor came in to check me and I was then at 8+cm, and she ordered pitocin so the epidural wouldn't slow down labor. When my nurse was about to put in a catheter at 9:15pm I was fully dilated and she was able to see a head of long blonde hair. We practiced pushing for a little bit waiting for the doctor to return to the hospital. After pushing on the first contraction with the doctor my baby girl was out and perfect. This whole time I never broke a sweat or had any pain exceeding a 6 on a scale of 10. I did get a second degree tear, but she is sooo worth it. My beautiful little girl, 6lbs. 6oz, 20in. of perfection.
