But a friend sent me this today and I thought it was interesting
It's a poster that lists the "ingredients" for breastmilk (chemically, not emotionally)

Re: Edit Title: Breastfeeding Ingredients Info Sheet
haha-- for real! I'm not! I just thought it was interesting!

I think it's all great info for those of us that do BF but also a little harsh to point out to the women here who tried their very hardest, are not able to BF for various reasons and are still upset about not being able to..already down on themselves about it. No offense to you bunnymama but that is just how I see it.
BLOG
I agree, its harsh! Im a formula feeding mother (not by choice).
I am one of those women! My supply is completely tanking and we won't be BFing much longer-- I really really didn't want it to come across snarky at all-- I'm sure I posted it badly-- just thought it was interesting information and wanted to share!
Did NOT mean to offend anyone!!
I disagree. Talking about factual differences between formula and BM shouldn't hurt anyone's feelings. I understand it is an emotional decision and many mothers here are now FF who weren't planning on it, but they are doing what is best for their baby and their family, and talking about things that exist in BM and do not in formula doesn't change that they made the best choice in their circumstance.
I know it's a hot topic for people who are FF although that is not their first choice, but they don't have to read posts that clearly are about FF vs. BM, you know?
OP- I thought that was interesting. Thanks for sharing!
I'm not offended - its reality. But I was just starting to feel ok with having to give formula (I've been supplementing since 8 weeks) and now I feel bad... It's so unfair
On the other hand, I feel like we get very carried away in obsessing over what we give our children when they are infants. In 4 years from now, most kids on this board will be eating chicken fingers and french fries for lunch (and all the other garbage that little kids eat), which I can guarantee is worse than formula.
So true! I'm sure I will make an effort to feed healthy things to my LO, but if he's anything like DH and I were all he will want is mac and cheese and hotdogs.
FWIW, I am a mama who FF becuase I couldn't produce enough milk and I am NOT offended. I thought it was interesting!
No offense to anyone but no matter whether I was BF or FF, I am so tired of seeing stuff about one vs the other. And I opened it up interested and saw it was comparing one to the other and clicked out of it.
Just my opinion and feelings!
I bf and ff not by choice. I guess I take everything I see on here with a grain of salt so no offense taken.
It is reality. Breastmilk just has more benefits for babies than formulas but for us, and you, who just have no choice but to give formula in order for our LOs to thrive, it's a life saver.
There are some interesting "sciencey" replies under the poster though. It seems like someone has a better grasp of biology than I do. She made points about how formula may not contain Human Growth Hormones, but they baby's pituitary gland produces its own, and when fed HGH ones stomach acid destroys it anyhow.
And...a few posts after that I lost interest, but it makes sense that a child's body would make many of those things on its own through the digestion of the nutrients, fats, etc. it receives from its diet...(insert additional things I tuned out or have forgotten since first-year bio)... I was FF fed, yet somehow my body produces those things in my BM, no?
I think it's rediculious that people have to be "careful" posting about the ingredients of BM but anyone can start up a topic on different formulas and not have to be cautious of offending anyone. It's really too bad that some people didn't get to breastfeed despite their best efforts, but that's not the posters fault, not my fault, not even THEIR fault. I will be the first advocate for breastfeeding, but if it doesn't work or someone chooses to FF regardless, there is NO point in being offended about others talking about the fact that whats in BM is healthier than formula. Those are facts, not opinions, not observations, and it will remain that way whether or not you chose what your child eats as an infant.
That being said, the title comes across as kind of waiting to offend people and may have been better off stating "BM info sheet for those curious" or something. Either way, no panties should have been scrunched up over it.
This. I wasn't offended by it at all. It's reality. Breast is best. We get it. Let's move on.
That being said, I am totally a supporter of all the breastfeeding mamas on here. I hate the fact that it didn't work out for me and DS, but I love that this is a place where those that are breastfeeding can come for support. I'm just tired of the whole breastmilk vs. formula debate at this point.
OP - I know you didn't intend for this response, so I'm not trying to be snarky towards you.
