I'm lucky. My MIL is an amazing, giving, selfless woman. My own mother, not so much. She'll call me, quickly ask how I am, then spend an hour talking about herself. It's pure torture. She probably wonders why I'm never the one calling her but too clueless to figure out why!

I feel guilty about checking "super annoying" and feel like I should qualify that I love her to death, almost as much as my own mother, but she drives me batty. She has the best of intentions and doesn't have a mean bone in her body, but she is all over the place and frankly a little nuts. I can only handle her in small doses (and thankfully, so can DH!)

My MIL is OK, she kind of annoys me because she's very irresponsible and I think in the back of her mind she expects me and DH to take care of her later on in life. She's never done anything wrong to me, in fact she's very nice. But I give her personal life the side-eye.

For one, she left MH with her parents when he was 4 years old so she could run off to Italy with my FIL and "work on their marriage" (they are now divorced) and then moved to the U.S. to shack up with another man. DH's grandparents raised him until he was in high school. She spent all her savings, got delinquent on all her loans and fled the country. Now she is mooching off of her retired parents.

My MIL passed away just a few weeks ago. I had only met her once and spoken with her on the phone a few times. Her and DH did not have a good relationship because she was an alcoholic. She lived in Indiana anyways (we're in CA). FIL actually remarried his first wife a few years ago. I've only met her once, she seems nice enough.
