Anyone see Dr. Sh ep par d? (peri/MFM)

Dr. Shep pa rd is my perinatologist and I've only actually met with her once--just had ultrasounds the other appointments. I liked her quite a bit at our one meeting.

The ultrasound tech on the other hand.....barf. She treats my son like he's a parasite. It's so clear that she doesn't want him there and he's extremely well-behaved (like sits in a chair in a dark room for an hour with me while I get an u/s, looking at books or eating Cheerios). She also has the worst bedside manner--cold, unfriendly, doesn't talk to me about what she's doing, seeing. I've tried very hard to engage her, make her laugh, etc. No go.

I called today and requested "the other" tech (whoever that is) for my 20 week scan. I'm thinking she can't be any worse, and hopefully she's much better.

Just wondering if anyone else had a similar experience with the tech (I don't know her name).

Also, all those people talking about how much the love Dr. Be rry in Tiffany's post made me wish I could switch :(

  • I don't have any experience with this particular office, but you need to be comfortable, so definitely switch techs.  The Dr. may not even know about the lack of bedside manner, so I'd probably also (casually) bring this up with him/her.

I had the same sort of experience at AABC.  I just really didn't like one of the midwives and I was so nervous to bring it up/request someone else.  When I did though, they were so understanding and were much more concerned about me having a good experience than who saw me any given day.  They just didn't schedule my appointments with that particular person, no big deal to them.

  • I saw Dr. S during my pregnancy.  I know her from work and picked her because of my experience with her from work.  I had my NT scan there and then an anatomy scan because there was concern about oligohydramnios.  For the NT scan I saw both sonographers and your right one was way cold.  I wasn't impressed with her at all.  The other sonographer was great.  I dont remember their names.  For my anatomy scan, Dr. Sheppard did my whole scan, I didn't see a sonographer at all.  I dont know if that is normal.  I called her balling when the sonographer at my regular OB office said there was oligo, so I think maybe she was just doing me a favor.

I love Dr. S.  I think she is extermely smart and good at what she does.  But she is also very direct and has a unique personality.  I know quite a few people who dont like her.  I think its just a matter of your personality styles.  If you like Dr. S then I would give the other sonographer a chance or talk to Dr. S about your experience with the sonographer.  I hope she would be receptive.

If your not wild about Dr. S then switch docs!  I agree ladies on this board love Dr. Berry.  I also have friends who have seen him for their high risk/twin pregnancy and have nothing but good things to say about him.

  • My friend went to dr berry for her NT and anatomy scan. she saw the same US tech both times and said she was a cold B both times. She never met Berry until she called the office manager to complain about the US tech and the manager practically begged her to come back and let Dr berry do another scan. She said she really liked him but I don't know if she would go back to his office after that.

  • Thanks, everyone, for your responses.

MrsTalala--thanks! It makes me feel a lot better that the other sonographer could be much better than the crusty one. As long as that's the case, I have no desire to switch, as I've been really happy with Dr. S, herself, so far.

I will definitely be mentioning my feelings about the unpleasant sonographer to her, either in person or writing. I'd brush it off and blame it on her having a bad day if it hadn't been consistently abysmal all three times.
