Postpartum depression

Sense of humor required for this blog (as you can tell from the post title). I had a friend battle PPD and it was rough. After having my first I had a glimpse at what she went through and think it should definitely be talked about more.

  • Oh my! This is actually my blog. Thanks for posting. Hoping my having no shame will help other women that struggle with this sucky condition.

  • I agree! Thank you for sharing! I feel the more I can know about it the better chance I will have of getting through it (depression runs in my family).

  • Thanks for posting this! I love when people find ways to laugh at difficult and serious issues. You're right, PPD is not talked about enough. I've seen many friends go through terrible times. We (as a board) should be aware (and I think many are) that we all could, possibly, face some struggles with PPD in the next few months. I think we have the ability & responsibility to watch out, support & comfort one another in the future. And should do so with care & compassion.

  • thanks to the OP and the author of this blog.  PPD is something I'm very concerned about with my history of depression and my mom's history of PPD.  Even though I haven't taken meds for a long time, and have been pretty stable throughout pregnancy, I have already talked to my doc and have a plan to start meds once the baby is here.  I think it's a great idea to plan to continue to be a support and resource for each other once we deliver.

This.  I am concerned also because of my history.  However, it has been years since I have been on meds.  I mentioned it to FI and he said "the only anti-depressant you need is our baby boy"  He doesn't get mental illnesses and thinks that they are just a cop out :-/
