1) my lo is just over 4 months old. We are starting the transition to her own room, in her crib. Our bedroom used to be downstairs and hers upstairs so she slept in our room in her pnp or in the living room with me but still in her pnp. As of yesterday, we moved our room upstairs so we can be on the same level as lo. I'm wondering if you put your lo in their crib for very nap? Any tips for the transition? She still sleeps swaddled and wants a paci only for sleep and I'm hoping I break those habits Asap as well. Any tips?
2) our house is pretty small and old. It has no closets. As of right now, her swing, play mat, exersaucer, and bouncy chair are in the middle of my living room. The rooms are all pretty small so I really have nowhere to put them that I can see. Any suggestions of how to store these things so that she can still use them without looking like toys r us threw up in here?
3)I have a Sony baby monitor. I forget the kind but it's not a video monitor. I can talk to her, see the room temp and control a night light. Any experience with these? Should I invest in a video monitor? Her room is now right beside ours.
Thanks for all the help and sorry for so many questions.
Re: A few unrelated questions. Opinions appreciated.
I transitioned DS in a few steps.
First i started naps in his crib
Then i moved his RNP to his bedroom, he would still nap in his crib, but at night he would sleep in his RNP in his bedroom (so it was still familiar, yet in his room).
Then i transitioned to the crib for both naps and nightime sleep and never looked back. However, this worked the first time we tried it so i never tried anything different. Good Luck!
As pp said do some naps in the crib first then do a full night.
No advice for the storage, I've just resigned myself to living in a wonder world of baby crap until the kids are grown or our damn house sells and we can get a bigger place!
I love my video monitor, my eyes were glued to it the first night she slept in her own room! It is a Motorola and I highly recommend it, it was about 150 on amazon.
we did the same thing
1. My LO has been in her crib in her own room since the first day home from the hospital, so I'm not much help with the transition, but she generally does not nap in there. Naps are usually in her car seat if we are on the go, or in her bouncy seat or swing. Occasionally I'll put her down in her crib for a nap is she falls asleep in my arms or something, but she doesn't usually nap as well there as she does in her bouncy seat (which is doubly odd because she STTN for 12 hours at a time in her crib, but doesn't nap well there). I think my reasoning has been to teach her that her crib is for nighttime sleeping, i.e - sleeping for looooong stretches, as opposed to quick naps.
2. I try and keep most of her stuff in her room, and other things are kept neatly in one corner of the living room when she's not using them. We have a small, single-story ranch, though, maybe that doesn't help you as much if LO's room is upstairs. Maybe some nice storage baskets for the smaller stuff, but otherwise, I'm sort of resigned to her stuff taking over the house for as long as she's using it.
3. We have a Sony Babycall monitor. It's very basic, but it works great for us. Like I said, we have a small single-story ranch, and honestly, we barely need a monitor - I think I can hear her fine from wherever I am in the house as long as the doors are open. But it's definitely necessary if I'm outside while she's napping or something like that. Personally, I wouldn't spend the money on a video monitor. Especially if you already have a monitor that works fine.
I moved my LO to his own room/crib last night and he slept pretty well...went to sleep at about 9:30/10 and slept until 3:30a for feeding and slept again until 7:30. I didn't notice a difference in just putting him in there vs the pnp in our room (we are right next door too!)
I let Lo nap where he wishes, I have never really put either of my kids in their crib to nap (just preference I guess) He sleeps in the swing usually, that way I can pass by while doing things and check him. He also get used to sleeping through our everyday noises
I have the Angelcare monitor, I love it so far. I have had no false alarms (yet) and it makes me feel secure. I think the monitor you have is probably fine, it all depends on how you feel about it. I know angelcare makes a movement and video monitor, but they are expensive (approx. $300 I think) I only have the movement one and it also tell the room temp, etc. Like I said though, we are right across the hall from him and I noticed I can still hear him if he wakes up and needs something.
Good luck in everything you decide to do!! Hope this help a little
I did the opposite of most PP.
LO used to sleep in the bassinet right next to me. She is 5 months.
I rock to sleep, and then put her down. So instead of sputting her down in the bassinet, I just put her right in the crib. She slept just as good as next to me. I just made sure I had the nightline on for when she woke up (she is scared of the dark).
After 2 nights of sleeping well in the crib, I started putting her down in the crib for naps as well. No issues.
One thing that I helped make it almost "transition-less" is that she always sleeps with white noise... the sleep sheep/phone app... so I just made sure to transfer that in the crib as well.
As far as monitors, I just purchased a Motorola Baby Video Monitor (on amazon for $169, no tax, free shipping) upon recommendations from many other moms... and I absolutely LOVE IT!
My LO also takes the paci to sleep, and often wakes in between feedings looking for paci -- so when I hear her, I actually see whether she is waking up or looking for paci.
