Should I take a stroller to Disney?

DS will be three months shy of turning 4. He hasn't used a stroller at places like the zoo, smaller local amusement parks, the mall, etc. since he was about 2 or 2.5.

I hate the thought of having to deal with one again, but I know Disney is huge. We are spending two full days at the parks and an extra day in Downtown Disney and having dinner at one of the other resorts.

The stroller I own is a huge one from my travel system, so if you tell me I should take one, I might need a rec for a lightweight one that would be better to take.

  • Will your DS ride in a stroller - mine refuses.  Did you look into how much it would cost to rent a stroller?  It might be easier to rent if you need one. Then you don't have to carry it around to the hotel and on the transportation.

  • I live 20 mins from Disneyland and go all the time.  My DD is 4+yrs old and I still take a stroller.  I think all my friends with 4yr olds do too.  Not necessarily for the kids to sit in, but for a place to hold all the stuff you'll bring and acquire.  I'd just bring the one you have - it has a good basket!  You could rent, but I have no idea how much.  Also, when you rent they all look the same.  And they look dirty - yuck!

If you really want to rent, I'd suggest contacting OC Tykes (www.octykes.com) as they offer rentals that are clean.

  • Thanks guys. I'm honestly not sure if he would ride in one. He probably will if he gets tired. Usually if he gets tired of walking he wants me to carry him, and that is not happening at Disney with my almost 40 pound child. But even if he won't, I never thought of needing one just to put stuff in.

  • We are going in May and I plan on taking ours.  If for nothing else than to store water bottles, wipes for dirty hands, the camera etc.  Also, I think DS will sit in it while waiting in line and when he's tired of walking.  It will be way easier than having to carry him!

I'm bringing our stroller like this: https://www.walmart.com/ip/The-First-Years-Jet-Stroller-in-Elegance-Red-Black/17176984  It folds up super easy and doesn't take too much room, yet it's taller and more sturdy than average umbrella strollers IMO.

HTH - oh, and my DS will be 5 when we go! :)

This is one of the reasons we take one.  Plus, if there is a crowd, its much easier to push your DS thru the crowd in a stroller, than to manuever thru the crowd holding their hand, IMO.

  • My 4 year old used one last time we went and yes you need a place for your stuff!

  • We are planning a trip for this year when DD will be 4.5. I am leaning towards bringing a stroller. We have barely used one since DD turned 2. But I figure Disney is huge and DD is just too big to carry. Like pp's said it will probably make it easier getting your LO through the crowds and it is somewhere to put your stuff. I plan to buy a cheaper umbrella stroller. Figure I will try to catch a deal on albeebaby or eBay. You could always try without and rent one while there if needed.

  • A stroller will be nice for storing stuff unless you want to lug everything around in a back pack.

When we went to the MK a couple of years ago, you couldn't keep your stroller in lines.  They have great parking areas for them, but be prepared to empty it of anything of value when you stand in lines.

  • As someone with season passes who goes to WDW often, I agree with PPs, you definitely need one.  A place for your stuff and when your child gets tired.  Even the ones who normally don't ride in one may need a break every now and then.  We don't use our stroller much anymore, but definitely still do at Disney.

When we go, DD will be 5.5 and we'll have a newborn. I was trying to figure out if I had to invest in a double stroller (I probably wouldn't otherwise, since DD hasn't ridden in a stroller in years), and have decided that it's in our best interest. It's going to be a total PITA to transport, but I think I'd rather be safe than sorry.

There are a lot of places in Orlando to rent a stroller, that might be a better option for you if you don't think you'll need a double anywhere else.

  • We are going late summer/fall this year and we are bringing our City Mini double stroller for our 4 year old and 1.5 year old. DS like to sit in it when there are tones of people around plus he would get way too tired walking around all day. Also the seats recline all the way so they can nap if they want and the canopy on it is amazing. Plus it fits through any door way. It's like their home away from home and I like the convince of having a place for all our stuff.
