Beyone's new baby prevents NICU parents from visiting their children

Have we talked about this?

Someonw on FB just got me all riled up because she didn't understand what the big deal was and they thought the NICU parets were lying.  The staff at Lenox Hill says that nothing like this happened.  I am sure the truth is somewhere int he middle, but it infuriates me none the less.

Re: Beyone's new baby prevents NICU parents from visiting their children

  • DH and I have been talking about it - even if they couldnt get into the NICU for an hour or two I would still have been pissed off - NO ONE would have kept me from DD while she was in the NICU - especially in the first months when things were touch and go - the Hospital should not have let them disrupt the NICU even for a short while! I would have been livid if it was me!!!

  • It probably lies somewhere in the middle. I can say this though. Beyonce's "security team/bodyguard" could tell me just ONCE that I couldn't get into the NICU and heaven help both him AND the hospital staff. He would have gotten my wrath and I'd have been demanding to speak to whoever was the highest person at the hospital and filing a formal complaint. Twenty minutes or not, there is no way I would be kept from my baby just so some celebrity could visit Beyonce in the hospital. The fact that the family didn't lodge complaints with the hospital immediately is crazy to me. I'd have been tearing the hospital UP for allowing that and there is no way they would have been able to keep me out on multiple occasions.

  • I honestly don't know if that's legal to prevent a parent from seeing their child? What if that parent needed to feed their baby and it was being breast fed only? (not likely but you know what I mean). Unless it's a private institution and they signed a waiver saying they understood that ahead of time...I would think they could sue the pants off the hospital. Celebrity or not, healthcare rights apply to everyone. That's just my opinion anyway...for what its worth. lol

  • I am with all of you, I would have raised Hell.  A formal complaint would have been filed.  I think I am more upset with people who are blowing this entire incident off.  Even if a small fraction of this story is true, people should be outraged.  So many people just don't get it and that just makes me want to throat punch them.

  • I heard this and I am not sure if it is true, but if it is then I think it's disgusting. Just because there is a celebrity in the building there should be no reason to prevent parents from seeing their babies in the NICU.

  • I don't post here often, mostly lurk :) When I heard that I was Furious

DS was in the Lenox Hill NICU for 7 weeks, and if they kept me or DH out it would have been a HUGE problem. It's disgusting.

  • I have a really difficult time seeing this to be true. I work on a mom/baby unit, and we've had our share of celebs.(albeit, none of Beyonce's fame) NONE of which would have ever made an ounce of difference to our patients care. Expecially to our cirtical care floors.

There were a few times I can recall that parents were not allowed in NICU. Once when we had to call a Code Blue on an adult visitor. We did not allow parents in because of the amount of critical care service members that needed to be in there to save this women's life. Another time was when we had a baby cor.

And if there was any delay in these parents getting to their child, it is the fault of the hospital for allowing that to happen. And I would suspect, a hospital that has the caliber of A list celebs delivering there, has policies in place to deal with these sort of things.

This exactly and I would have called the police AND walked my baby OUT of that NICU and gone to another - also having called my pedi.
