Trying to Get Pregnant

? For Charters Who Are BFing

I posted this on the breastfeeding board but only got one response so I thought I would try over here.

I got what I think was my first postpartum period 3 weeks ago.  It was very light and only lasted a few days (I also took two pregnancy tests and they were both negative).  So I decided to start charting again since DH and I want to start trying again.  This chart just isn't making any sense to me.  I charted for 8 months while I was trying last time and it was so clear cut, this time around I have no clue what is going on!  Fertility Friend seems to be guessing that I O'd on cycle day 11, I doubt that, I was thinking maybe CD 20, but my temps haven't really gone that high.  Any advice?  Thoughts on my chart?  Anything would be helpful at this point!  TIA

Re: ? For Charters Who Are BFing

  • lurking, but I hope someone can clarify.  I'm nursing and we will start TTC again in a few months.  Haven't had a postpartum period yet, but the thought of charting while nursing and living with two kids who don't STTN is already starting to confuse me.  I've looked at the BF board a few times too and either people aren't TTC while nursing or they aren't posting about it.

(I charted for a year to get pregnant with my first and just a couple of times while TTC my second to see if I was still ovulating around the same time every month that I did prior to having DS1.)  Your chart is confusing to me too...I don't think you ovulated at all, but then again I haven't charted in awhile.  Your CM pattern looks strange, but nursing will do that.  It did take me a few months for my cycle to regulate after DS1, so it is possible you'll just have to wait awhile to start ovulating again.  Good luck!

  • I'm not nursing any more but was last cycle (my first TTC).

My chart was super crazy.  Granted my DD doesn't STTN and I don't consistently get 3 hours of consecutive sleep so that has something to do with it, but I think nursing played a part as well.  FF never gave me CH and I got a BFP.

I'm not a huge chart expert so I am not sure if you O'd.  Just wanted to know that I experienced the same thing.  And it's not fun when you don't know whether your chart is right or not!

  • My first PP cycle was much like the way you described yours. The second one was killer - heaviest flow EVER. I actually got a BFP in that cycle, but I had a very early m/c. I'm in my first cycle post m/c, now. Feel free to stalk my chart.

Pre-baby, I had very consistent 28-29 day cycles, but I never charted. Now, I'm Oing about day 19, but I'm still unsure how long my LP is (because my first cycle charting was the m/c).

I'm still pretty new with charting, but  my guess is that after you get another few temps in there that maybe FF will move your CH to CD 20?

  • The first few cycles post partum were anovulatory for me-- at least according to my charts.  After about 4-5 pp cycles, things have resumed to pre-pregnancy norms for the most part and we are still nursing 3x daily.

  • Not seeing O yet. This is my first PP cycle, and I O'd later than normal, and I had tons of fertile CM, just like you do. GL, I hope you O soon :)
