Nanny?

I plan to return to work part time after peanut arrives. When should I start looking for a nanny and where to start?! Also, I hear it is more difficult to find a part time nanny.... suggestions?? Thanks!

I dont know what country your in, but in Canada there are agencies. You can call.

yes pt is harder. you could do sharing. nannys are pretty costly- about $1800 per month- daycare might be cheaper if you only have one child- or dayhomes.Unless you work odd shifts- nannies are crazy expensive I have three kids and still do a daycare.

Me too! I just prefer to have my babe at home. I'm also in and out all day so that I way I would be able to stop by for a visit. I have a good friend who has a nanny cam! Ha! She told her nanny though and said the nanny knows when she is watching it because a little light comes on and the nanny will wave at her. She did it just to see how the baby was doing (not so much to stalk the poor nanny).

I have no experience here, but I've heard of people doing a "nanny share" with another family where each family uses her part-time, so that she actually has a full time job via 2 employers.

Get somebody with LOTS of references, and talk to every single one!! Also, a nanny cam is a good idea, but only if you're telling her about it. (Otherwise, she might find out later and feel like you'd spied on her--not really a good vibe, ya know?)

We hired a part time nanny a few weeks before I delivered but I wasn't going back to work right away and just wanted extra help at home with my toddler so there wasn't any pressure to do it earlier than that. We considered an agency, but ultimately I got a recommendation from a friend.

I would ask around and see if there is anyone within your support system...it might be too early to start asking now if you aren't sharing your big news yet but I think that is a great place to start. I would also recommend going through an agency because they oftentimes complete background checks and expect that their nannies receive education and trainings/certifications. And finally...if you are near a college that is a great population to find part time help. I was a nanny throughout college and it worked out great. I found the opening through my college's website.

We hired our sitter through care.com. She's amazing. She only works once every 2 weeks for 10hrs a day and only charges $10.00 an hour.

i was a full time nanny for 3 years when I graduated from college..I would say start interviewing a few months before you want to hire...most nannies looking for a job are going to want to start fairly quickly. You can always go to care.com and place an ad with your specifications (you can specify the number of hours you need someone, how many children, etc.) A lot of nannies on there have background checks available, which are always helpful. I would also definitely get references, and find out why they are looking for a new family. Hope this helps, and good luck!
