We'll be using the Flip system with our little man but he's still a bit too small for them. In the meantime, I have two questions:
1. What do you do with poopy diapers when you're not at home? Do you just throw them in a wet bag and wait to rinse them when you get home?
2. I know you're not supposed to use zinc oxide diaper cream (and that cloth is supposed to be better at preventing rash in general), but what do you use instead? I received a tube of Aquaphor (main ingredient is petrolatum) and a tube of Burt's Bees as shower gifts but wanted to make sure those were safe to use with cloth or if I should be looking for something else.
Re: A Few Questions from a Newbie...
1. I try to knock out what I can into a toilet and then put it in the wet bag and TRY to remember to wash them out immediately after getting home. Plus if you are breast feeding you don't even have to worry about the poopy because it can just be washed in the washer without rinsing.
2. When DS has a minor diaper rash, I use Butt Paste. Then I make sure that the next wash of those diapers is a stripping wash. If it's more of a major rash, we do go to sposies until it clears so that we can use something more heavy duty. DS had a fungal rash and it took nearly three weeks for us to get all the fungus out of the CD and to get it to clear up.
1.) We just throw it in the bag and deal with it when we get home.
2.) Here's a chart on diaper creams and which are safe for CD
https://www.pinstripesandpolkadots.com/diaperrashcreams.htm
According to the chart it says to avoid using them with cloth diapers, unless you put a fleece liner in.
1. Yes
2. Use a fleece liner with those creams, or find a CD safe cream. I use Aveeno with no problems, even though it's not ideal. A lot of people have good experiences with CJ's BUTTer
I just throw the poopy diaper in the wet bag and deal with it at home. If you forget to shake it out just throw it in the wash and it will still wash out. Some people are grossed out by that but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
If I use any diaper cream on my son I use a fleece liner (the only cream that works for my son is Poop Goop) My son breaks out from every type of cloth diaper same cream so that is not an option for us. I just made my own fleece liners and I wash those separately from the diapers.
