How to spell girl name?

Thinking about Keira as a girl name but I would the name to be pronounced: Key-air-ah. I don't want Key as part of the spelling because that seems silly to me. How would you spell it so the pronunciation is clear?

Re: How to spell girl name?

  • Keira is a completely different name than what you are looking for, and pronounced KEERah. I have no clue how to spell your preferred pronunciation.

    ETA: The way you spell it out reminds me more of Sierra with a K, so Kierra?

  • I would spell it the correct way: Kiera or Kiara. There are really only two ways to say it and they are only slightly different. You can say it like Kira or as you want Key-air-ah (oh, or key-ar-ah). You, your H, and your D will just have to correct people which is ok (despite people not choosing names in fear of their child having to correct people....which I don't get). Many, many names involve having to correct people in some way when they pronounce them the first time.
  • If I saw "Kiera": I would say it like "kee-ra"

    If I saw "Kiara": I would say it like "key-air-a"

  • I have a good friend named Chiara, pronounced key-are-uh. It's Italian.

  • If you're looking for the name key-air-ah then I think it would be spelled Kiera. Keira is a different name, more like keer-ah.

  • I would do Kiera. Keira is pronounced KEERuh and Kiara I think of as keyAREuh.

  • Kiara will more likely be pronounced the way you want over Kiera, but people will probably have to be told your preference.

  • For the pronounciation you want, I agree Kierra will probably get the job done.

    This is how I feel. However, I have 3 students in my dance class with that name, spelled the way OP had it. Each child pronounces her name differently. It drove me crazy until I could remember who was who.

  • Kiara or Keaira

    She can always say "kiara, rhymes with tiara"

    I constantly have to make reference to the weather when people read my name...so she'll get used to it.

    If you knew better, you'd do better.
  • To get the pronunciation kee-are-uh, you should go with:

    Chiara
    Ciara
    Kiara

    Which are all acceptable spellings of a legitimate name.

    Kiera = kee-air-uh

    Keira = keer-uh

  • I would spell it Kiera- same way as Kiera Knightley says hers, right? Key-air-uh.

  • I would go with the original spelling, Chiara. It is very pretty without the "K"
