Because my last C-Section was unplanned/emergency, I wanted to have more control over my RCS. I am making a birth plan so that the doctors, staff and our family are informed of what my wishes are in the event something were to happen. My question is how often are birth plans really followed? Have any of you ever done RCS birth plans and since it was such a blur what happened last time I just remember being in extreme pain after the C-section what kind of main meds can you request (if any) after the surgery?
Re: Birth Plan for Planned C-Section
I think a birth plan is always a good idea! It helps you communicate exactly what you want and makes sure you don't forget anything. Make sure you husband knows too, so he can advocate for you, but a birth plan provides a starting point to discuss you wishes with the nurses.
Common pain medications for after surgery are Percocet and Vicodin. Non narcotic would be ibuprofen 600mg. Most people opt for the stronger medications right after surgery, but I'm so sensitive to narcotics that I steered clear of them and stuck with the ibuprofen and it actually worked pretty well for me. Also, ask your anasthesiologist about dura morph in the epidural before they take it out...it's a local, non systemic version of morphine they can put in there and it helped me a ton!

I'm not doing a formal/written birth plan for my RCS in April.
Prior to the c-section, I am going to make my wishes known. The only thing I am concerned about/want is to have skin to skin and to be able to BF as soon as possible (in recovery).
I have done a birth plan with my hospital because I have one wish for my delivery: I don't want my husband and baby to leave the OR. My doctor has agreed to this (as long as there's not a medical need for him to go to the nursery right away). While my doctor is finishing the surgery my husband and son will be sitting at my head. My doctor even added when I was talking to him about this that I could be wheeled out of the OR to recovery holding our baby. Which to me at this point sounds like a dream come true. My hospital will only honor requests like this if they are on file with the birthing unit before you come in for delivery.
Thank you so much for posting this! My DH and I both read ur post and ur exactly right to leave the recovery room holding my DS would be a DREAM COME TRUE! thanks so much! We had never even thought about asking for that..I have my 30wk appt tomorrow and I am going to ask! I am so excited! Thanks again so much!
