how common are false negatives?

Hello,

My boyfriend and I have been ttc ever since I had a miscarriage Sep. 15th 2011. My last period was Dec. 6th 2011 and I was due for my next period Jan. 3rd 2012. I am currently 1 week late as of today. I took a test this morning and it said not pregnant, my period has been regular for awhile now so just wondering if there's still a chance I could be pregnant? Someone told me that I could have tested to early, but I thought you could test anytime after your late, so I figured waiting a week would be long enough for the results to be correct. Help!!!

    Well you could have ovulated late...which would mean that you are not really 1 week late.  I'd keep testing once a week until you haven't had a period in 60 days and then call your doctor.
