For those of you using a dresser and not a changing table...

...What are you storing all of your baby changing supplies in?

Re: For those of you using a dresser and not a changing table...

  • We stored everything in the top drawer.  The other 2 drawers were used for clothes.  Many of LO's clothes were hung in the closet.  I bought some small baskets for the top drawer--one to hold socks, one to hold creams and such.  The diapers and wipes just fit.  I saw no need for something else.

Even now with the cloth diapers we use, most of it is still stored in the top drawer.

  • We're going to keep diapers in one of the dresser drawers, and for everything else we have a shelf on the wall above it. I'm going to get a little basket/caddy to put the supplies in on the shelf.

Ohhhhh.  I guess I never even thought about putting items in the drawers.  That's a good idea.  (BF was scared if I put things on a shelf above him I would end up dropping things on the baby.  I'm a little clumsy.)

  • Dewey, we're pretty similar, I'm discovering.  DH feels the same way about me with various baby-related things.  I mean, it is warranted, I am clumsy, but it made me laugh.  We haven't talked about a shelf (I was planning to use the top drawer) but if I were to suggest a shelf he would say the same thing to me!

  • We are using the top drawer for diapers and the wipe case.  I might get a really small caddy for the random little things, although that would probably end up in the drawer.....I think I just need to get a small bin for that stuff.

Ha!  I'm glad I'm not alone.  There might have also been a look of horror when I mentioned buying a shelf...

Man oh man.  My iphone went flying out of my hands a few months ago and landed HARD on our bathroom floor.  BF goes, "what was that?!"  I can't believe I didn't break the phone.

  • We have shelves above the dresser and will put baskets on them for storage. Another option is using a built in desk in the room for the table and same idea there. Built in shelves with baskets. If we go with the desk my aunt is going to sew a skirt that will attach to the side of the desk with Velcro so we can store diapers and crap under there too!

I *may* have dropped the cat (in her cat carrier) a few weeks back.  We were at the vet with the pup and the kitty.  DH took puppy out to car after we were done (she gets anxious at the vet).  I had cat carrier (with cat inside) and had to pay on the way out.  Placed cat carrier on the counter so I could sign the receipt (honestly, WHAT was I thinking?  Why wouldn't I put the carrier on the stable floor?!).  Cat moved inside carrier and BAM!  On the floor.  Carrier falls apart, cat shoots across the room, I break down into tears.

That's perhaps one of my worst during pregnancy (though, there is the time I fell out of my chair at work, went to OB to be checked out, got home to lectures about "being careful" from DH, and then stepped on a nail DH left face up on the floor).  Oh the joys of clumsiness multiplied by pregnancy brain!

Luckily, the cat was fine.  My foot was fine.  Baby was fine.  DH does worry about me once baby is here though.  I've gotta figure out a way to be more careful.  Shelves would not help me with this.  And, now I know I MUST not put baby carrier on high counters.  It's not safe for cats which means it is clearly not safe for sweet little babies.  UGH!

  • I used a small basket on top of the dresser.  I think I used the top drawer for extra supplies for a while, but it wasn't necessary and I needed the drawer space eventually.  I didn't see a need for an extra piece of furniture when the dresser functioned perfectly as a changing table.  A lot of times we ended up on the floor or bed anyway out of convenience so it was nice to be able to grab the basket when I needed to change her elsewhere.

  • We are still doing a pretty gender neutral room, even though we know it is a girl.  We are doing a lot of primary colors, (Red, blue, green, orange) so we may get this https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50163264/#/70163263 to put above the dresser to hold some things and have a basket with diapers.

  • I'm going to use a top drawer and a small basket next to the changing pad. I also registered for a little organizer that hangs off the side of the dresser. Like you, I'm EXTREMELY clumsy so I have to keep everything at or below baby level.

    Me (33). DH (37). DD (2.2012). MCs x4. After 4 years & 7 months, due 4.2018!

I looked at that on Saturday.  That was one of our possibilities.

  • We have this https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3006556 and it has worked really well for DS.  I keep regular diapers in one slot, night time diapers in the 2nd slot, and lotion, butt cream, etc in the 3rd slot.  I keep it at the end of the dresser and have the wipes next to it.

  • With my son we put a shelf up above the dresser. We had a diaper caddy on top of the shelf. It worked well for us.

  • Here was our set-up.

    image

Originally, we did not have the shelf and his main toiletries (cream, powder, lotion) were kept in a basket on the dresser.  Once he got bigger, he ended up kicking the basket OFF the dresser.  Not fun at all.  That is when we got the shelf.

We CD.  I keep covers in drawer 2, inserts in drawer 3 and other miscellaneous diaper stuff in drawer 4.  I keep cloth wipes in the red basket.

My dresser is not this wide...it basically is as wide as the changing pad.  However, like I said, we use the closet to hang his shirts now, so only pants are in the dresser in one drawer and pajamas in the bottom drawer.  It works for us.

I think I would drop things on him too if we had a shelf above the dresser.

  • top drawer with backups in closet.  We have a long dresser and the top drawers are super deep, so kinda weird for clothes anyway. We also are having some basics on top of dresser(or secured to side of dresser) like smaller thing of wipes few diapers cream.

I got this exact one.  It's pricey, but the colors fit our room perfectly and I love the compartments  and little small pockets on the sides.  I thought about keeping everything in the top drawer (I got a plastic insert for the drawer to keep it neat) but then I thought it'd be easier to have a few things on top.  I got mine at BRU, but they have it at target also.  I think I'll also use the top drawer to keep diapers in since we aren't using a stacker.

  • I am setting up a shelf above the dresser where I'll have cloth-lined baskets for both diaper supplies and bath supplies. Also, some of the stuff can go in the top drawers of the dresser.

  • Our dresser has three drawers down the side, then a cabinet with shelves next to it, so changing supplies will go in the cabinet and we will also have a caddy on top to store stuff in easy reach.
