Baby Names

What personality do you think would go with these names?

My husband won't give any input until we meet her which is making me crazy so the names were taking to the hospital are

Tess

Gwyneth (Gwen)

Clare

Keira

As a teacher, I have definitely seen a pattern of personality traits/expectations with names and students. I've never had a student named any of these so I was curious what you thought. or just any thoughts on the names. I wish I was one of those people that had a definitive name set before birth!!

Re: What personality do you think would go with these names?

  • I'm not sure what personality types would go with those names since I have not seen a pattern with those names. I am clinical psychologist, and I also have seen certain personality traits associated with certain names. I specialize in eating disorders, and it is very interesting to notice what more of the common names of the patients I see are.

I agree with you that there are definitely a pattern with names and personalities.

    Tess: witty

    Gwyneth: kind

    Keira: annoying

  • Tess - Outgoing, spontaneous, talkative.
Gwen - Pretty, precise, always listening.
    Clare - Intelligent, sweet, intuitive.
    Keira - Confident, outspoken, independent.

  • I am also a teacher but I have not known students with all of the names below. However, I still associate some personality traits or characteristics with them.

    Tess- spunky, smart, friendly, popular

Gwyneth (Gwen) - reserved, perhaps a little nerdy

    Clare - sweet, caring, gentle

That's interesting - which names would you say are the most common?

  • Tess - spunky
    Gwyneth - quiet, smart
    Clare - spunky again
Keira - my only association is Keira Knightley, and I strongly dislike her, so it's not positive for me.

  • Tess - talker, popular
    Gwyneth - a thinker, sweet
    Clare - admired, classy
Keira - loud and spoiled (sorry, bad association here)

  • Tess, Gwyneth, Clare all seem like snotty popular girls with parents who hang out at country clubs and look down on people.

Keira -- white trash, high school hooker. I knew someone with that name in high school and she fit that description EXACTLY, so that's what I think of.

  • For Tess, all I can think of is Thomas Hardy's novel Tess of the D'Ubervilles and that is not a good association for Tess.

    Gwyneth: Intelligent, quiet and thoughtful

    Clare: Sweet and outgoing

Keira: Like most other pps I find this one to be more on the negative side. I've met 2 Keiras and both were egotistical.

  • Going by my patients with these names...

Tess- Love, BTW- Sweet, gets along with everyone

    Gwyneth (Gwen)- snobby

    Clare- classic, rich girl

    Keira- Pretty, fun

I would make the same associations, except for Keira -- that is my name and it is interesting to see what traits people associate with it! FWIW, I don't think I am annoying, boisterous, egotistical, or a hooker :)

  • Tess: Popular and Slutty. Every Tess I have ever known was extremely promiscuous in high school and kind of a ***.

Gwyneth: Sweet, well spoken, maybe on the shy side.

Clare: I always think of the breakfast club when it's said that Claire is a fat girl's name. I don't know if that's true, since I don't know any Claire's, but that's my association.

    Keira: Annoying.
