Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Date Nights, do you have them?

I haven't been out to dinner with DH for 10 months. Please see below, DS is 10 months old. We have not made our relationship a priority and we can tell. How do you get out of the house together? It just seems like more energy than I have to go through the day with DS and then get him ready for bed and somehow brush my hair to go to dinner with DH.

Oh and also, DS is still not STTN so I'm exhausted. We went to the pedi yesterday and I told him we can't get DS to STTN the night and he said "yes, I can tell your tired". Oh, how sweet of him. He told me to do Ferber and do it asap.

Ok, so back to date nights ... do you do them every week? once a month?

  • We do 'em on occasion. No way in hell it happens once a week or once a month, though. We've done three nights out since DD was born and she's just shy of 10m. All three times, we've had a babysitter (either my parents or MIL) come by around 6pm. We give them she shpiel and head out, they take care of dinner and putting DD down for the night. We get home around 11pm.

  • We have dinner every other week.  That's when DH gets paid, we have dinner then do our food shopping and what ever else shopping as well.  That frees up the weekends for family time.

  • No, but as soon as Abigail is weaned from breast milk, DH says we are leaving her with my mom and going to an all-you-can-eat pizza buffet, because I will be able to eat dairy stuff then.

  • Thankfully we have parents who live really close and love to hang out with the grandkids. We might have a dinner out like once a month, if that. We have had a few nights where both kids have spent the night. That's nice because we get lots of sleep!

  • We try at least once a month to go out. Both sets of grandparents live near us so that works out nicely. We are kind of on a budget so we do a lot of fun date nights in. Usually we order a pizza, watch a movie or play some sort of game. Works for us.....:)

  • We have had one date on our anniversary that lasted about 2.5hrs. That sounds really sad. We have gone out but we take DD with us.

Your story is just like mine. We have no family here and so that's why we haven't been out. We do go out as a family though.

My reason for no real dates used to be that Natalie was WAY high needs. Now that she's older and can crawl, she's gotten a lot better. I have a friend who she is good with and she has older kids (9 and 10 years old). Natalie likes older kids. Honestly, I need to just call her and see if she would be free to take Natalie. She has taken Natalie once, but that was when we were moving into our new home. So we didn't have "us time" just had hectic last minute moving time lol.

I'd like to start doing date nights at least once a month...

  • In the last year, I think we have had 3 dates. One included a meal. It's just hard to mange schedules and with my niece on the way it's pretty much going to be impossible so, we are getting  a babysitter.

We don't really mind though she's easy to take out with us but we would like some alone time.

First time out since Sept of last year will be on the 28th for a matinee for the babysitter to get a feel for Molls and for her to get a feel for the babysitter.

    After then it's on!

  • Yes, have them about once a month or so.  We really wanted to make it priority - so we've tried to get as many people to babysit as possible!  My parents leave about 3 hours away - and they come stay a couple nights usually every month or so.  They've watched DD several times so we could go out.  We've also had my sister watch her twice, DHs best friend watch her once and paid a babysitter to watch her once.  Our other friends gave us a "free babysitting"  voucher for Christmas - so we are doing another date night this weekend.

I guess we are really really lucky in the grand scheme of things.  Not sure where my mindset would be without those nights. I highly recommend finding someone (ask your other mom friends about sitters maybe?) so that you can have some couples time.

Good luck with the sleeping.  That must be rough.  I probably would have ran out of the Drs office crying if he said that to me after 10 months of no sleep.
