Hubby will not be there for birth :(

We found out a week ago that my husband is deploying to Aghanistan and will not be there for the birth of our 1st baby. I am so sad and heartbroken by this! This is my 3rd child ( my boys are by my late husband) and I know how important that moment is when you just meet your sweet newborn. Not sure how to handle this...hoping someone has some advice.

Re: Hubby will not be there for birth :(

  • Most of my friends are military and several have gone through this. It is so hard to do, but you will have people there for you, and when he gets home and sees his baby in your arms for the first time that will be something he will never forget and also gives him far more to look forward to while he's over there. It will all be worth it and forgotten when you have him home again, I promise!

  • Aw, I'm sorry. My Dad was military, it was heartbreaking every time he went on tour.
  • So sorry to hear this news!  I know it's not the same as having DH with you, but hopefully you have other family that will be by your side.  Thank you to your DH for serving our country.  I just wish our military would focus on our own country's problems and issues cause there are plenty of them!

Ditto this...all of it.  I am so sorry for the timing.  Is there any chance at all he will get a 2 week R&R that could coincide with the birth?  Just a thought, my cousin is there now and had 2 weeks R&R this fall?

  • I'm soo sorry!  I can't even imagine....  Maybe you could tape it?  Or Skype him when it happens?  I don't know how realistic the Skype thing is but it's just a thought.  Good luck!

I`m so sorry he won`t be there.

About Skype - my sister was able to have skype the entire hospital stay so that my BIL could see their DD whenever he was available.  His troop knew the potential dates, and kept him completely available for the birth.  He saw the whole thing! They gave him a private room and both sides, hospital and base camp, were very accommodating.

Overall, her experience was made as good as you could hope for in this situation.  BIL met his DD when she was 8 weeks.

I wish you all the best!

  • I am sorry you have to go through this. As a Marine's wife my biggest fear is that he may have to deploy between now and then.

  • I am so sorry to hear this. My husband is in the air force and it's always a thought in my mind. Just remember only the strongest women are military wives! Keep your head up :)

  • I don't really have any advice but I just wanted to say how sorry I was. I could not imagine doing it without MH. I hope everything works out.

Right, like the military is going to be the one to fix the economy and crack down on crime.  Hmmm, maybe if we had them in full uniform on every street corner, it WOULD cut down on crime!

  • Thank you for your sweet words! I'm already looking forward to that day! :)
  • Thank you for your sweet words! He wil not be able to have R&R because he won't be there long enough before our baby is born...we have discussed him coming home for R&R when he is able but we are both afraid it will be too hard for us when he has to go back. Also, Marines that do not take R&R get to get on the first wavy of people coming home....
  • Our baby will be 5 or 6 months old...still tiny but that special moment when the baby is welcomed into the world is priceless
  • Yes, this will be set up for us also. I'm having our baby off base because the Naval hospital does not have internet on the maternity ward....which I think is insane and just wrong!  Thank you for telling me this because although this is the informayion we have been giving you its nice to hear someone else has gone throught it! :) I needed that, thank you so much! My DH will meet our baby when he or she ( we haven't found out yet) is 5 months old.

Maybe a different time/post for the political discussions? I'm sure the OP would appreciate it.

  • Really? This woman is struggling with something you will never have to face, and you think that's a time to voice your political views. News flash, our military doesn't make the decisions, our elected government does. You're a moron.
  • I'm sorry to hear your H will be deploying. Mine was deployed when DS was born so I know the feeling all to well. Feel free to PM me if want to talk more. :)

If she continues to bump up posts feel free to flag her :D

Can I flag her anyway?   Her first post is to necro a 20-month old thread to call people idiots?   She's clearly up to no good.
