  Can you see a lot of food crumbs/particles clogging up the filter at the bottom?

  I didn't look - I'll have to check that out. Maybe if there are then clear them out and then do a wash with vinegar?

  funny enough, the plumber just left our house for that reason:)  ours was a line issue...it wasn't run right between the dishwasher and the disposal so water was backing up into the washer from the disposal.  we like our plumbers, let me know if you need their info!

  ours started in nov when we were using the disposal more (we stopped composting for a bit) and just did it a handful of times.  just over the weekend though we didn't catch it and water actually leaked out so we called. 

  i would call and talk to them...they are super nice and very honest (from what i can tell).  they come to the house before and just looked at something without charging.  they might be able to tell you over the phone if they think they can help you.  the name is first plumbing and the number is 512 282 7787.  i've worked/talked with steven and david (he just did the repair at the house).
