how much nighttime sleep is your 3ish yo getting?

DD is still taking a 1-2 hour nap most and she sleeps ~11 hours at night, but I have frequently have to wake her in the morning.  She's been on the same basic sleep schedule since she was ~15 months, but it suddenly seems like she needs more sleep.

Left to her own devices, she used to sleep an extra 30 minutes, but recently, she's been sleeping an extra hour or more.

  • Not enough!  For the last two months or so, she has been waking up 2-3 times a night.  She falls asleep around 9:30 if we are lucky (she is so wound up before then and we don't get home til almost 6:30 on my work days so hard to get her to bed sooner) and gets up around 7:30/7:45.  I would say if she naps, which is usually only at home so 3 or 4 days out of the week, she naps for about 2 hours.  I don't feel like she gets enough sleep especially with waking up in the middle of the night.

  • No naps, and from about 8-7:30 each night.  It seems to fluctuate every few months though.  Fingers crossed she starts napping again, cause I really need to right now!

  • 13-14 hours if I let her sleep in. About 12 when I have to wake her up for school. She doesn't nap.

  • Well I've got an almost 3 year old and a just barely 4 year old, they both sleep about 11 hours at night and that's it.  The younger one would like to nap from 1-3 or 4 every day and then not go to bed until 8-9 and sleep until 7 or 8, so if he napped he'd get more sleep over all but since my oldest is asleep between 6:30-7 every, single.night it just wasn't working for us to have 1 with a later bedtime.
  • About 10 hours, plus a 2-3 hour nap.

  • Mine have never been sleepers (my one has been sitting here with me watching Sesame since 5:15). On a good night, they'll get 10 hours (there are sometimes wakeups). They still nap 1-1.5 hours. I cant imagine having to wake them!
  • Not nearly enough.  She's in bed by 8, but usually not asleep till 8:30 or 9.  During the week, I have to get her up at 6:15 for school / work, so roughly 10 hours a night.  She'll sleep till 7:00 to 7:30 on the weekends.  She doesn't nap, except occasionally at school where she's the only kid in her class who doesn't nap, so it's hard to keep her up.  If she naps at all, she won't fall asleep before 9:30 or 10 - it's frustrating.
  • At 3, DS started dropping his nap (even though daycare had naptime) and would only nap a couple times a week for about an hour.  He started needed more nighttime sleep and we needed to move up bedtime.  He went from sleeping around 10 hours to 11 hours.  We do notice that he goes through spurts of needing extra sleep and attribute that to a growth/development spurt.
  • DS will be 3 next month and naps maybe once every 2-3 weeks. He only sleeps for about 10-11 hrs a night.

  • Nap is mandatory at school and is about 1.5 hours. Nighttime is a disaster for the past couple months. It's usually 9 or 9:30 (after going to bed at 8:30) until 6:45 in order to get to school, so that's roughly 9-10 hours at night plus 1-2 hours during the day.

He definitely still needs the nap with the hours he is keeping at night, but I wonder if he would sleep more/better at night if they dropped the nap. Oh well...

  • 10 hrs at night, 2-3hr nap during the day.  He will go to bed earlier and sleep longer (13ish hrs) if he skips the nap, but he's rather cranky come dinner time without it.

  • He is in bed before 8 everynight and usually up around 630/7. Plus a 1-2 hour nap.
