June 2012 Moms

How much time off is your SO taking off?

How much time off is your so/dh planning to take off when the baby comes.

DH works for a small company with no paid leave, but his bosses are really laid back when it comes to taking time off.

It all depends for us how much $$ we can save up to cover his lost wages. My goal is two weeks off.

Audrey is going to be a big sister!

  • If we schedule my c-section for a Wednesday, chances are I will be ready for DH to go back to work that Monday.  He gets some family medical leave with his job, but we try to save some of that for doctor appts, etc.

  • Luckily we are both teachers and I am due June 1st.  He is reporting to school until the 7th but then it is summer vacation!  :)  I will be very happy to have him home with me for the three months.  I get 6 weeks off before the due date so I am stocking up on books to read so I don't get too bored.

  • My husband gets 3 weeks paid time off, so he will probably take a week or so. He originally wanted to take 2, but I will have a lot of help due to being due in the summer (a lot of family members work at schools), so I think I'd rather he save it for later. There's a lot of months left after the birth!

  • DH is currently interviewing for a job that has paid paternity leave for 3 weeks!  If not he'll probably take a week or so of vacation from his current employer.

  • My DH will probably only be off a week, plus the weekends before and after. So hopefully he'll be home with LO and I about 10 days total before he has to go back to work. Dpending on what day of the week LO arrives, though, it may end up being only seven or eight days.

  • We are so lucky the we both work at places with great maternity leave and FMLA. With DS I got 3 months paid and when I went back to work DH got 6 months paid! He did work every other weekend for those months. We haven't discussed what we will do this time but I don't think DH will be doing a full 6 months.

  • My DH has paternity leave which covers 2 weeks. He also has vacation time.. If I have to have a c-section, I would see if he can use some of that, otherwise it'll just be the two weeks.

  • I'm guessing a week or so, it won't really matter, he can take off whatever he needs but it wouldn't be paid (he has a student position that doesn't accrue time off or anything).  So it would depend more on what we can afford than anything.

  • This has been so hard for us to figure out! H is a business owner, and there isn't anyone else that can see his patients, so we'd be spending a lot to keep the office open while not bringing anything in. We're thinking that he'll take a few days off, then the following week he'd work 2-3 hours/day to help offset the costs. I've been interested to find out what others are planning.
    EDD: 6/28/12
  • My husband's company offers unlimited paid vacation. So he'll take a month off (which is what past employees have done). By then, I'm sure we'll both be ready for him to go back...

  • DH has a lot of sick time accrued that he should be able to take off after the baby is born.  I'm hoping he can take 1 1/2 - 2 weeks.  After that I have a feeling I'll want him to go back to work.
  • DH wants to take 6 months of leave - half my maternity/parental leave.  I told him when he grows boobs to feed the babe, he can take half of the leave.

He will be taking a month off when baby is born.  2 weeks vacation and 2 weeks of leave.  We're also expecting he'll be laid off for a couple months over Christmas so he'll have that time at home too.  After that, it depends on when my work needs me back and when I want to go back - he'll take whatever leave is left at that time.

Last time, he was home with us for the first 4 weeks and the last 2 months.  I went back to work a little early and it sure was nice having a house-husband around.

  • DH plans to take at least 2 months off.  He has a ton of personal leave saved up plus he gets paternity leave as well.

  • With #1 I think DH took about 2 weeks off. With #2, it was no more than a week.

This time we're hoping he'll take about a month off, but that's mainly so that he can focus on the older 2, keep them entertained, etc, so that I can focus on the LO and getting some rest (after #2 was born it almost killed me to be up with DD at night AND have to be up with both LOs during the day for the first few weeks).

  • DH took a week with DS, it was honestly fine but my delivery was very easy. He will take 2 weeks with the twins (if they are in the nicu, he'll take time once they come home) and then MIL will come for a week and hopefully other family for another week.

  • DH gets a week off paid starting the day baby is born. He will then take another 1-2 weeks at the end of June, we have to travel for DHs parents 25th anniversary party in AZ the last week of June. So he'll be off 1 week then go back 1-2 weeks depending on when baby comes and then off for 2 more weeks. My mom will probable be around helping during those two weeks because that's when she gets her vacation.

  • With DD DH was home for a week, then when I had an appt. he took that day off to come with me (to get staples out) This time I think if we have the c-section on a wednesday he will be back to work on the following monday but still take a day off if I need him or there are appointments scheduled for myself or LO.

  • DH is quitting his job and going back to school which starts June 26th.  He is done with work the 1st of June.  I am hoping the baby will come 11 days early( or somthing like that) like DD so he has more time home with us before he starts Grad school.

  • He has about 3 weeks vacation. We haven't decided but we think only a week for now and he can save the others for a rainy day.

  • DH owns and runs his own retail business, so it is going to be tricky.  I'm sure he will close completely the week I deliver and am in the hospital.  My guess is that for the next week or so he will have an abbreviated schedule.  The good thing is that my mom can come stay for the early part to help out so he can still work some.  Summer is a very busy time for him.

  • My Hubby gets 1 week paid Paternity leave and then he is goiing to take another week vacation and probably work from home a few days a week after that. His job is very flexiable! thank goodness for that!

  • My DH doesn't get any paternity leave, so they technically expect him back the day after we get home. We are hoping to save up some of his vacation time, however, so that, depending what day I have the baby, he would have until the following Monday off.

  • DH will probably take a couple of days while I'm in the hospital and a couple of days when I come home.  He was only able to take 2 days last time and we were fine.  My Dad stayed for a week to keep me company.

  • My c/s will hopefully be on a thursday or firday so dh can comp that day by working more the beginning of hte week. Then he'll take off the next week. We'll be out of the hospital no later then sunday so I'll have him home for a whole week. It's also nice b/c my c/s will be june 28 or 29 and the next week has july 4th which is a company holiday so no PTO has to be taken that day.
