Holy Party Overkill, Batman!

It is no secret that I think kids birthday parties are out.of.control. I know a lot of people really love to put on elaborate fetes for their children. Fine. Whatever. It's cool.

However, I am probably going to side-eye you if you throw this event.

  • LOL. I'm trying to imagine getting an invitation to something like this.

This comment is cracking me up (emphasis mine):

"I adore this idea. It's a great way to get them motivated.

As for Anonymous, personally I love my child and yes his milestones may be common and normal. But for him and me they are major accomplishments. Why would I not celebrate my child every chance that I get if I have the means to do so.

Yes it all is normal and you may not see it as something worth celebrating but I'm the type of mother who is incredibly proud of her son and believes that encouragement and praise are essential to their well being.

This party isn't a celebration per say of the accomplish instead it is a source of encouragement to help little ones get interested in potty training so that they can accomplish it."

Yeah the whole thing is over the top, but this part is what initiated the ginormous eyeroll from me.  Tacky.

  • You know she is going to be the room mother in elementary school and drive all the rest of us mothers insane.

  • Oh for the love...

Also, I am HOPING against hope that the little girl on the left - (scroll down a bit) who is looking dejectedly down at the floor - is this mother's kiddo. She is so totally mortified by her mom's ridiculous event.

  • That mama has way too much time and money on her hands.  whoa.
  • I, for one, thank her for the LOLs this brought me today.

The underwear cupcakes. The #1 and #2 goody bags. The diaper toss.

It's all so perfectly done. Such dedication.

  • I am going to go out on a limb here (and I am one of the overkill moms-see 12 step post of FB today) that since she is an event planner and personal blogger she is building up sponsorships. I would say she is probably sponsored by Pampers and getting promotional set up and gain from that.

As for the theme, it's cute but I think a cute little play date would be suffice for potty training rewards. However last year I did throw an Art Party for when when a friend came into town where they got to take home painters buckets filled with play dough and cupcakes they had "painted".

Some people like to plan and throw parties (like me) and want to do that instead of buying new clothes or shoes or books or purses. For me it is my hobby of sorts and since I did it as a career for so many years before I was a SAHM it's hard not to crave doing it now for my kids/family/friends.

My biggest problem is the subject matter. I think it's ridiculous. Second to that is the nature of the event. If parents want to spend that kind of money and time on a birthday party, that's their preogative (and their wallet.)

I have a hard time with these kinds of parties for the same reason I have a problem with out-of-control weddings: they're gratuitous.

I love looking at kid party blogs and have no problem with over the top parties other than the fact that it makes me feel inadequate.  :)

My issue with this party is the subject matter.  Isn't anything private any more?  And the thought of eating things that were being used to represent human excrement is just disgusting.

  • Haha I totally agree it is weird but I am still thinking it's a promo event. A lot of these events you see on blogs/websites or whatever are set up to promote an item. In this case, pampers. I am sure she is getting a ton of pull ups in return. Especially since she used the "logo" and "theme" from the new pamper ads.

Well you're not getting an invite to our potty party then!! Wink

Theme "gray chevron" What?? Since when is a pattern part of a theme. OK... I'll give you polka dots for a ladybug party. But Chevron? Where do you come up with that kind of stuff!?
