SERIOUS Potty training regression at daycare only

So DD had *4* accidents at daycare on Friday. Not "big" accidents but just that she didn't make it to the potty in time so a little dribbled on her underwear. She finished in the toilet after each dribble. Came home in spare undies and pants. When I asked her about it she said "I don't know/I don't feel good/I just want to snuggle you." She had a huge bowel movement at home Friday evening so I thought well maybe the pressure was throwing her off a bit. She didn't have another accident all weekend and we were busy. Birthday party, church, baptism, etc. Then today I went to pick her up and she had another *4* accidents. I asked her if anything happened at school, if she was upset, etc but I got the same response as Friday. Her teacher is at much of a loss as I am. GAH! She is 3 1/2 years old. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • My DD is having the same issue.  She seems to have waves where she regresses for a few weeks, and then it passes.  I'm sure it'll pass.  She might be coming down with something, or having a growth spurt that's throwing her off.  My DD is having minor issues with impending big-sisterhood.  The baby is going to wear diapers, so she *kinda* wants to, too.  Also, I think she really likes the mid-day wardrobe change at school.  The kids are responsible for changing themselves if they have an accident, so I think she likes to go into the bathroom and come out wearing something different.  She had a pee accident Thurs, Fri and Mon.  Hoping today breaks the trend.

  • Thanks for the reply. I wouldn't be so concerned if it was one or even two accidents but 4 a day just seemed crazy. This morning she did let me know that she didn't like how they had rearranged the room at school. This was done on Thursday. So we walked around and explored it together before I dropped her off. She seemed to feel more comfortable and I tried to make her excited about the change in scenery. We shall see what happens today. :) Good luck to you.
  • If it's just a little dribble, I'd not worry about it.  Most of the time, it's because they are too wrapped up in playing or they think it's not ok to go to the bathroom.  For example, I had a little girl who heard me tell another child that we needed to stay in our group area (it was group time and he was wandering around the room, pulling toys off the shelf and messing with people) and thought that meant she couldn't get up to go to the bathroom.

Most of the time, however, it's because they get too wrapped up in what they are doing and don't allow enough time to get to the potty and pull down their pants.  It'd be more concerning if she was PT'd and then just suddenly started fully peeing her pants.
