Unfortunately, I tested postive for protien in my urine after the 24 hour testing. Blood pressure hasn't gone down whatsoever either. Ugh. I was really hoping that the bed rest would help so I could wait until 38 weeks for the induction, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. I have to go into the doctor every day until next Wednesday to get my blood pressure/urine checked to make sure it doesn't spike way up.
OB said next Wednesday night I will be checked into the hospital and she will start the induction (soften the cervix first, then do the petocin). I didn't realize that it could take a day or two for it to happen! She said to be prepared to be in the hospital for a week or so. She also prepared me for the likely chance that I will need to have a c-section since there is a higher chance with cases of GD and hypertension. If my blood pressure gets too high, they will give me a magnesium drip and send me over to the OR. Baby will have the scalp monitor on his head as well the entire birthing process.
Had my first internal today and I'm 1 cm dialated. It was a bit uncomfortable pressure wise, but not as horrible as some have said it was going to be. It was nice to see the baby is doing great (healthy heart beat, perfect sizing). I'm was so thankful to hear that bit of good news among the rest of this scary news.
Whew...thanks for letting me share. I'm so incredibly nervous/scared for this process, but I know it will be for the best.
Re: It is official: Medically necessary induction at 37 weeks...
I feel for you! I also have GD and PIH, and am currently in the middle of doing my 3rd 24 hour urine collection. Also on modified bed rest for the last month. I once read that "high-risk" pregnancy should really be considered "high-responsibility" pregnancy because it takes so much energy and effort to manage these different conditions, in addition to the usual discomforts and anxieties that pregnancy brings.
I wish you luck, and hope that the induction goes smoothly! My initial hopes for my pregnancy were to have an un-medicated midwife assisted birth, but I've wound up with all these things plus breech presentation, so it looks like it's a c-section either way for me. Now, my goals are to have a healthy baby with mature lungs who doesn't have to spend time in the NICU. And I think those are healthy goals! Even births with lots of interventions can be empowering, and I hope yours is too. Hang in there.
T&P for you, hope this next week goes well for you.
Agreed on all of these points. I originally planned for a non-medicated natural birth. I'm still trying for the non-medicated portion so long as I don't need the c-section. My OB is really pushing so that I won't need a c-section, but she said that I need to be prepared since it there is a good potential for it. Good luck for your birthing too! Hopefully our baby won't have to see the NICU unit, but we are preparing for the worst and hoping for the best!
If it makes you feel any better: I was medically induced (sizing too small) at 37w3d with my DS#1. I had zero notice- they just said I wasn't going home!
5pm: checked into hospital. 1cm dilated, 20% effaced...basically, nothing.
10:30pm (the 7th) I started pitocin (slllooooww drip)
Midnight they pumped it up to full speed (now the 8th)
0630 they checked me I was at 4cm- doctor broke my water
0930 or 10:00 I was at 6cm - got an epidural to try and relax some
1:25 I was ready to push
1:49 Baby arrived!
So It might not be as long as you think

Will do! We aren't saying anything on Facebook yet since we've had some nosy friend/family that are insisting that they will be visiting us at the hospital. :-)
Whew, thanks for the heads up! Hopefully it won't take too long to get things going. I don't know if she said it might take a bit to soften the cervix because they are trying to get my water to break first or what. I meet with her again on Monday, so I think we will talk details then!
That's why I didn't even give out the name of the hospital to anyone but my parents, and we've asked them to not tell anyone without our permission.
Here's to hoping you can avoid a c-section! Best of luck to you.
Wow, you're going to be in the hospital a week? Why?
Otherwise, good luck! I'm sure you're scared, but you'll have your baby soon!
Good luck! I really hope everything goes smoothly with the induction, but more importantly, that you and baby are healthy.
My sis was induced for PIH and given magnesum- she said it made her feel wonky, but she held off on the epi as long as she could and was able to have a vaginal birth.
