Evan is doing great (all things considered) :)

Today's FB Update:

Peaceful morning so far (not counting the weather). Doctors are tweaking his meds and trying to wean him off the epi. Taking baby steps. Starting the work up for a transplant and making sure he is a viable candidate. The testing takes a week or so. Need our strong man to gain strength and remain stable. Please continue to keep Evan in your thoughts and or prayers. We draw strength from our family, friends and others that are continuously pulling for Evan. We appreciate the support and are deeply grateful to everyone. ?

I am SO THRILLED to see they are trying to put him on the transplant list.. means the dr's are hopeful for his future, right?! :) YAY!

  • That's awesome! I was wondering what the plan was going to be..I mean whether they were going to try for a transplant or not.

  • They had been talking about putting him on the transplant list if a number of things they were trying didn't work.. but I wasn't sure if Friday's cardiac arrest episode was going to change everything.

I think it's hopeful that they're still talking about getting him on the list!! And from everything I read, I think things are going as well as can be expected =)

Being on the list can be hard on a family. Because you feel like you're hoping and praying that someone else dies :( In this case, someone elses child. If anyone in your family starts expressing that concern, redirect them to the mindset of " We pray that God give families strength during their time of need. We pray the transplant coordinators are able to help them see how their loss could benefit another family. God willing the heart will be a match for Evan so that we might have many more happy years with him" The coordinators are usually really good at helping recipient families navigate those emotions but just so you feel prepared.

My stepmother was a transplant recipient in 1994. Waiting for the pager to go off was brutal. We had 2 false alarms :(

  • Don't give up hope!! My best friend was born with a heart defect. The drs told his family he wouldnt make it past toddler years. In one of the surgical reports the drs actually said, "I have no idea how we fixed it, but he is ok" He lived for 25 years. He had 3 open heart surgeries, several pacemakers, and loads of heart medicines. BUT, he played soccer, ran track, won highschool prom king. You couldn't tell by looking at him that his heart wasn't expected to make it past toddler years. He spent many nights in the hospital, with only days left, but always pulled through. His determination and positive attitude is what we all say gave him the 25 years he had. Give that family a big hug and tell them DON'T GIVE UP!!! Prayers are coming their way!
