my bf wants to go to a holiday party on the 28th of jan. he said his 18yo sister offered to watch ds. im really not comfortable with that...she has watched babies before for short periods of time but never a newborn.. my ds will be 4weeks old.  i really dont feel comfortable leaving ds with her even just for a couple hours. i would feel better if my mom was watching her, but how do i say that without offending him or his sis? when i mentioned that i didnt thinnk i would be comfortable leaving her (not even mentioning with his sis, just leaving ds in general) he said its only a couple hours...what would you do?

please excuse the mistypeing, i am typeing with one hand holding ds in the other haha..

    Yeah, we didn't leave DS with "stranger" (i.e. not husband or our mothers) until he was almost 3 months. We left him with the MIL around 4 weeks, but she has experience with almost 9 grandkids before DS showed up.

    Tell DH that you trust your mom's experience with newborns more.  You're right to not leave such a young baby with someone who doesn't have experience with a 4 week old.

    Considering letting anyone watch a new baby is something a lot of moms wouldn't do.  I think having your mother watch her is a reasonable compromise.  There will be plenty of time for his sister to get the chance to watch her.

    Do you think your mom and his sis could watch her together? Maybe say your mom offered to watch her as well? That way you feel comfortable and you're not hurting anyone's feelings. I agree...I wouldn't feel comfortable with it either.

    I wouldnt do it...I didnt do it with DS! Just explain your not ready yet.
