I am registered for some baby sunscreen and I hadn't thought anything of it until someone told me that babies aren't supposed to wear sunscreen! Is this true? Have I been living under a rock?
I live in California and my parents have a pool which I am at regularly during the summer. Am I to understand that I should not put sunscreen on my baby?? I'm confused. I know babies have sensitive skin so I don't understand why protecting it with sunscreen is a no-no.
Re: Stupid question about sunscreen
I've never heard of that before. My understanding is that because their skin is so sensitive they NEED sunscreen! Why else would they make sunscreen for babies? I registered for Coppertone Water Babies SPF 50 Sunscreen Lotion and the description says:
Coppertone? Water Babies? SPF 50 Sunscreen Lotion is pediatrician-recommended. It has a gentle, non-irritating formula that is clinically tested to be non-stinging on your baby's skin. Waterproof lotion is hypoallergenic, dermatologist tested and provides broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection with Avobenzone.
I'm glad I read this post... I had no idea! I did find this article, though, that has some good information: https://www.ivillage.com/sunscreen-safe-babies/6-n-136823
Thanks for the link and the information everyone! I feel like it is going to be incredibly difficult to avoid sun exposure 100%, but at least I have some tips now on how to minimize exposure and keep him safe!
