Success after IF

How many pairs of shoes does your boy have?

My mother has commented 2 times now on "everytime she sees him he has a different pair of shoes on" (she watches him 2-3 times a week for a couple hours). He only has 4 pairs of shoes. A brown pair, a navy pair, grey (hard to find black) and sneakers. She thinks I spend too much on shoes and should stop - I say matching shoes to an outfit is important! She thinks one pair of sneakers would match most his outfits...

Any how - what is your opinion?

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

Re: How many pairs of shoes does your boy have?

  • He has 1 pair of sneakers and a pair of slippers. We dont do a lot of shoes. In the summer he has a pair of sneakers and a pair of sandles

  • DS has 3 right now and it seriously made me cry to spend that much.  (We bought the first 2 then realized he really did "need" the third - so it just happened.)

He has a pair of athletic shoes, a pair of brown lace-up shoes, and a pair of super cute grey canvas shoes (think Toms or Converse).

He probably only really needs the first 2.  But! - I love the grey ones - so much fun.  I'm going to try to not make it a habit of having 3 at all times.  But it might happen ;)

(In the summer he had a pair of athletic shoes and then brown leather sandals - it was really all that he needed.  I think the winter is more complicated.)

    (eta: Plus slippers/ house shoes)

  • Lucas has two pairs of shoes, a pair of athletic sneakers and a pair of suade dress sneakers  (plus slippers and rainboots).  If I bought inexpensive shoes, he might have more, but at $40 a pair, I leave it at two.

  • My boy has 3 pairs of shoes usually.  A pair of tennis shoes and he's got two pairs of cro.cs.  We can almost wear sandals here year round, so he always has a couple pairs.  We usually buy new pairs every 6 months or so when he outgrows the old ones.

Not too many IMO.  I think if I had a girl, we would have way more shoes!

  • They just got into 5s now and they each have one pair of shoes from Stride Rite.  But they are in desperate need of boots.

When they wore 4s they each had a pair of shoes from Stride Rite and each had a pair of Merrill sandals for water play.

  • Winter:  1 pair of brown nicer shoes (but still velcro and athletic in nature) and 1 pair of white or navy blue that are more daily/tennis shoes.  + the requisite pair of cheap=o wal-mart or consignment store snow boots

Summer:  1 pair of crocks and 1 pair of keens or some other kind of sandal.  + the requisite pair of water shoes for the splash pad and beach.

4 sounds excessive based on our needs/experiences but hey... if you want them and can afford them GO FOR IT!!

    Nothing wrong with being fashionable.

I think too that we had more when they were younger.  Now that they're older they really do pretty much just wear jeans in the winter or shorts that look fine with almost any kinda summer shoe in the summer.  I think it's easier to go with less as they get older than when they're younger and a lot of the winter outfits involve cotton colored pants instead of jeans.

I know if I had a girl she'd have an insane number of shoes so I get where you're coming from.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • When P was younger- he had sometimes 7-8 paris (like Robeez).  Now that he is older, he usually has 3-4 pairs.  One pair of "play" shoes, a pair of nicer tennis shoes, nice brown shoes and dress shoes if needed (but those are usually free shoes given to us).

  • Yeah, that's the thing - if he were a girl I know my mother would not even mention it. She goes nuts on girl outfits and my younger sister had a jacket and shoes to go with every outfit it seemed. That's why I was shocked when she commented on it.

I know when he is older he most likely will live in sneakers - so I am having my fun now!

I am off to buy him the next size up shoes now - I usually start off with one pair, but add on as I go.

Hi, my name is Krissy and I have a shoe addiction!

  • Jack has one pair of lace up boot/sneakers (brown - nicer than regular sneakers but not dressy. Stride Rite.)

    One pair of winter boots.

    One pair of rain boots.

We don't do a lot of shoes - and he has never had a need for dressy shoes.  In summer he'll have a pair of sneakers and one or two pairs of play sandals.

    Wheee!

  • Oh- and he has a pair of rain boots...so make that 4-5 shoes at any given time.

  • Jacob has a lot of shoes. He has a pair of sneakers, a pair of brown casual shoes, brown bucks and then he has a pair of snow and rain boots. Over the summer, he has several pairs of flip flops, sandals and sneakers. I always buy his dress shoes and sneakers from stride rite, but the others could be from Target. It would be so much worse if I had a girl!

  • Oh- and Julia already has at least 15 pairs of shoes in various sizes (some were Patrick's that could be gender neutral and others I bought barely used for GREAT prices that I have put away for the future- ie. Pedipeds, Robeez, etc).  And Julia is only 4 weeks old.  Maybe I have a shoe addiction too???

  • He has 3 right now but only 2 really fit. I've been meaning to get him another pair. We have to get him pretty expensive shoes though because he needs arch support (usually $40 at least). If I could get him cheaper shoes (as I did when he was younger before the pedi pointed out the arch issue) he'd probably have more like 4-5.

ETA: He also has a pair of snowboots and a pair of slippers that I don't count since htey aren't in regular rotation. And Boodle has exactly one pair that she's only worn once, LOL (although I just ordered her a pair for our Disney trip this spring and was very excited about her growing to wear shoes regularly, LOL).

  • 3.

Your average sneakers which are used most of the time.

A pair of Chuck Taylor's, which are adorable on him but he stumbles and falls a lot in these.

And another pair of sneakers which are a much cuter than the ones he usually wears but they are a bit snug so these rarely get worn.

  • Nicholas has a brown pair- that he wears when he wears khkai or brown colored pants and a multicolored pair (sneakers) that go with any other color pants he wears.   In the summertime we do sandals (brown or another "go everything else" color) and crocs.

  • A lot...

a pair of brown, a pair of black, saddle shoes (navy and white), Jordans, navy casual sneakers, grey slip on sneakers, winterish crocs, as well as a couple pairs of boots....I may have a problem but he loves shoes too :)

ETA: Typically I get his shoes on sale and my sister bought the Jordans as a gift so I don't think it's too over the top. However, I feel like with girls we get shoes to match all outfits and don't know why it should be different for a boy.

  • three pairs (2 are robeez, mainly for indoor use).  A new pair of sneakers I just bought and a pair of winter boots.

In the summer he will have a pair of sandals, a pair of sneakers and a pair of crocs/water shoes.

I don't plan on buying dressier shoes until he needs them.

  • I used to sell shoes in a family shoe store and so I'm a big believer in buying good shoes but also in that it's not healthy for your feet to wear the same pair of shoes everyday.  Did you know that it takes over 24 hours for a pair of shoes to just dry out from all the sweat from one day's wear?

Anyway, my oldest boy has three pair right now.  Two pairs of dress/tennis hybrids that look nice with his school uniform and then a pair of "real" tennis shoes for gym day and weekends.  He also has a pair of winter boots.  In the summer I go a little crazy because I like him to have sneakers, sandals and slip-ons.

For contrast, my daughter right now has one pair of tennis shoes, one pair of brown dressier shoes and a pair of fashion boots.  She also has snow boots.  So, boy or girl, my kids are pretty much even.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

    This Cluttered Life

  • Currently, DS has 2 pairs of sneakers and a pair of brown shoes.  When he was younger he had one pair of sneakers and a dress pair but now his feet arent growing as quickly so he wears out his shoes before he needs a bigger size.

DD is a different story.  She has about 5 pair but I feel like it isnt enough.  I would love to get her a pair of sneakers that she can wear with most outfits but baby girl shoes are all pink and sparkly - not what I'm looking for.

  • We have too many - but in my defense I'm a yardsale girl -  all of them are name brand but I paid around $1-$3 for each.  I bought the first 'new' shoes for him that I've ever bought at Christmas and that was b/c Crocs was having a BOGO sale so I got a pair of boots & a pair of lined ones for next year for $25 for both (which almost gave sent me into convulsions)!  Anyway, he has 5 pairs of sneakers, 3 pairs of boots, one pair of snowboots, one pair of dressy brown shoes,  a dressy black pair, cowboy boots (his pick), and now his croc boots.  Heaven help me if i ever have a girl!

  • 4 also..

Sneakers that he usually wears to school/Mommy and Me. Brown "nicer" sneaker type things..we got these at Stride Right. Crocks That he wears ALL the time..Like he lives in them and they are soo easy for me to take on and off also. Finally velcro sandles that he just takes off in the car so we never wear them..these last ones are from Target so didn't spend that much..

  • DS has 2 right now - a sneaker-like pair of brown shoes from Stride Rite, and a pair of velcro converse all stars.  He also has a pair of boots (from last year, but since it hasn't snowed yet, I am hoping they still fit when it does!)

In the summer he has a pair of sandals and sneakers.  I actually bought a pair of flip flops for him at the end of last summer that should fit him this summer, but this will be the first time he has ever worn those!  And more for just beach trips - I think he would hurt himself if he wore them around!

  • Right now my oldest has 4 pairs- an everyday athletic sneaker he wears to school, A pair of brown casual sneaker type shoe, a pair of green converse I got for Christmas pics, and a pair of saddle shoes for dress.  He definitely wears the sneakers the most.  I should probably get around to getting him some snow boots in case it ever snows.  DS #2 has 2 pairs right now.  One for if he wears his orthotic and one if he does not.  We are trying to decide if it is making a difference or not.

In the summer we tend to have a pair of Keens, crocs, sneakers for school, and maybe some cheap flip flops.

  • 5, but I can't find one of the fifth pair. Pretty sure we would have been just fine sticking with 3 pair. Glad I can pass them down (hopefully) and get some more use out of all these shoes!
  • According to my DH, Bennett should only have one pair too.  Especially because he has wide feet and they are extra pricey.  He's never had fewer than 3, right now he has 4.  One brown pair and 3 sneakers.  One dark grey, one silver/red and one white/blue.  Oh and in the summer he'd had a pair of flip flops and Cro.cs too!

And his feet grow fast too.  He went from a size 4 last January to an 8 right now.  So, impractical or not, I'm with you on this one! :)

  • Preston has currently has 6 pairs of shoes in wears in the winter but that is including winter boots.

Brady has more but that is because he got some hand me downs from his brother and my mother bought him a few news ones after I went out bought some too!

Don't even get me started on how many Jordana has! The girl has at least 10 pairs of winter shoes!

  • I usually have about 4 pairs of shoes for him at any one time.

Right now he has Thomas galoshes, green tennis shoes, dragon slip on tennis shoes, and baseball tennis shoes. Oh, and light up stegosaurus slippers.

I don't have any dress shoes for him right now and that was a mistake. He really ought to always have a pair of black or brown dress shoes.

ETA: The baseball shoes and dragon shoes are from Gymboree and actually completed  the outfits.  Boys clothes aren't that cute so I have to make up for it in accessories.
