Anyone use a car seat bag when flying?

How did it hold up? Did you check it with luggage or gate check it? Thanks!

Re: Anyone use a car seat bag when flying?

  • We just flew Delta this past week.  Delta allowed us to gate check the stroller and car seat for free.  They took good care of the car seat, it didn't get a speck of dirt on it.  (We didn't use a bag or any other protection for it....)

Now checking it at the counter.... I don't think it would still have been in such good shape.....

  • We have many times.  We bought this bag after throwing into a trash bag provided at the counter a few times.  It is WAY more durable then the ones I looked at at BRU.  Plus, since it is a backpack, that's one less thing to carry...the backpack part works great.  In my experience, the baggage people don't take special care of carseats.  They get thrown, tossed, etc.  I figured I would spend a little $$ to protect the carseat of all things.  We also bought a cheap Cosco Scenera for travel so that our $$ Britaxes don't get trashed but we travel a lot (family is in two separate locations from where we are).  Even if you don't travel a lot, I would HIGHLY recommend the travel bag if for nothing else then to get it out of your hands.  GL!
  • I used one with Southwest and I'm glad I did.  First time of use there was a tear in the bag and it wasn't on the seam.
  • For those of you who used the bags, did the base fit in the bag also?
  • I used a bag I ourchased at Babys r us.  The base fit in the bag, I just checked it with my bags, had my baby in the backpack which works great becasue he got to stay in it, I didn't have to take him out through security check.  Bag worked great!

we have this same bag and have used it many times, loaned it to friends etc... it is wonderful!  very durable.  it fits our infant car seat or our ds's convertible just fine....with room to fit a large backpack or other misc stuff without having to pay for checked baggage.

  • We used this one for our recent flight:

It held up fine. Someone suggested we get it because you have to put it through the x-ray machine, and it can get all dirty and scratched up in there. We gate checked it, which I highly recommend (esp. if you have a stroller that it fits into-- one less thing to carry and you can stick your carry on bags underneath when you walk through the airport)-- on our return flight, the plane wasn't full so they offered us a full row, and we got to take on the car seat and put it in the window seat, where she happily slept for the whole cross-country flight. We were certainly grateful to have the car seat with us.

Check airline rules. They're all a little different.
