January 2012 Moms

Irritated, as usual.

DH's aunt just came down to FIL's house (I do all our laundry here) to check on me. She commented on how swollen my ankles and hands are, and I told her it sucks mostly because it's hard to nest when every time I stand up to clean my feet and ankles start tingling.

Then she proceeds to shout, "Just wait 'til that baby gets here! Then you won't be able to do anything! You won't have time to take a bath!"

Confused

As if all the "Are you ready to have that baby yet?" and "Haven't you popped that kid out?" hasn't been getting on my nerves enough today.

  • I'm getting texts and FB wall posts left and right.  I know how you feel.

  • The part I hate most about comments like that is it immediatly invalidates our right to complain about the pregnancy right now because it's going to be 'so much worse' later on.  Confused  I eventually started using the phrase "I reserve the right to complain about my pregnancy right now regardless of how things will be when baby is born."  That sometimes shuts them up.  It at least gives them pause.

  • First off, we all know it's going to be hard to get things done when the LOs get here. We weren't born yesterday. Way though to make us excited and happy about our little burdens-to-be. And if you (the general you, not agreg specifically) don't have time to take a bath, it's not the end of the world. It sounds like she's taking pleasure in the idea of you (or any new mom) being burdened and stressed with a new baby.  Some people...

  • I want to kill everyone who isn't pregnant or who hasn't just had a baby.  Those are the only people who aren't being stupid and asking the dumbest questions/making the dumbest comments.

  • Everytime I call friends I don't get a hello I get "is it time?"  Really? Because you would be someone I'd call to tell you it's time, and no I still have over 2 weeks to go. Chill the F out.

  • How annoying!  And, for the record, I've showered every day since E was born.  I know that might change when DH goes back to work next week, but as of right now it's been do-able :)

  • Ugh - I hate the "oh just you wait" comments as soon as i say anything about being uncomfortable! I work at a golf course/tennis facility so lots of random people - all of whom think it's ok to comment on a. how huge i am - "are you giving birth tonight? you're HUGE!" b. "you're still here? when's that baby coming out?" When he feels like it! I'm not a Psychic!!! or c. anything relating to how i'm giving birth - natural? induction? etc.

Wow, I must be more irritated than I thought!!

I noticed this too! It's perverse isn't it? We should keep notes of who these people are and be sure to tell them about how wonderful and easy our infants are after they're born (whether or not it's true).
