got out baby clothes- all stained!

I know I didn't put these clothes away looking like this, but I just got out DD's baby clothes to reuse for our upcoming daughter and they look terrible!  I'd say 75% are discolored around the neck.  Does anyone have tips on getting those stains out?  DD1 is almost 4, so these clothes have been in storage in a couple of damp basements.

  • That happened to us too but I used it as an excuse to buy more (and trashed those).  We didn't reuse any from DD (followed by 2 boys and got lots of clothes for DS1 from family and friends) and the boys were BF and it wasnt as big of an issue as my bottle fed DD (I think it leaks more than the boob). I think the milk stains spoil more over time.

  • You could try soaking in OxyClean and then laundering.
  • I was surprised to find this too! I only reused a few things since I went from girl to boy and I can't remember if the stains came out after washing them again.

  • Try wetting them and sitting them out in the sun. The sun is great at bleaching.

  • Same here. I washed them and added oxyclean and they were generally much better. I haven't tried sunlight but I hear that remedy all of the time. GL!
  • I just had the same thing happen. I know I didn't put them away 3 years ago looking that bad! I tried a very diluted mixture in a spray bottle - water with just a little bleach. Maybe 8-12oz water and 1/2-1 teaspoon bleach? I sprayed it on the spots, let it sit for a day then washed as usual with detergent (All free and clear). It seemed to lighten the stains and yet didn't take the color out of the clothes. The stains were very noticeable before and now maybe just a hint of a stain - I couldn't see stains but I'm skeptical that it really worked so I'm assuming there is still a little discoloration.

Warning (you probably know this) the bleach could take the color out of the clothes. I wasn't worried since I was going to throw away the clothes if I didn't  get the stains out - I figured it was worth a try.

  • I would definitely try BIZ, it works wonders and it also says on their bottle it helps with formula stains and so forth.  I used it on my older daughter's clothes and was amazed how well it helped with getting rid of the stains.  I was glad b/c we had another girl and I didn't want to have to buy all new clothing.

Yes!  The sun works way better for poop and spit up protein stains than any kind of stain remover and doesn't damage the clothes.  I would soak them in oxyclean, wrinse, and hang them outside to dry.  The stains dissapeared, and then I followed with a regular wash/dry cycle.  I was skeptical about the sun trick until I tried it.

  • DD #1 was a MAJOR spitter upper, so even though I packed her clothes away clean, when we got them out last weekend most the clothes from 0-6 are super stained. :(

I got a tub of OxiClean Baby and soaked them all for several hours before washing them with free & clear detergent. I would say 80% of the clothes are stain free now. I am going to try to soak the rest again and see what happens, if they are still bad I will just toss them.
