I was at a first birthday party this weekend and the host kept saying he made the cake. Well it was a box cake with canned icing. I would be fine if it were someone with no cooking experience, but he is a good cook. I just thought it was weird about how everyone just kept going on and on about how the cake was homemade.
So do you think a box cake qualifies as homemade?
EDIT: This wasn't to make fun or to hate on box cakes. Just wondering if you call box cakes homemade.
Re: What qualifies as "homemade"?
He made it at home.
What is this? Tear apart everything everyone says today??

I agree.
ETA: Although I don't think I'd be bragging about making something if it was just from a box.
Well, technically not I guess but I would never expect someone to say they used a box as opposed to from scratch unless asked. He did make it at home as opposed to purchasing an already made cake...
I suppose then if you use canned fruit mixes for pies and/or pre-made crusts you can't call your pies homemade either. But I do.

Ditto.
This. The canned frosting made me want to gag. I despise canned frosting.
I like to say things were "homemade" or "home baked."
Home baked categorizes things like boxed cake mix, break n bake cookies, etc.
Homemade means I measured the flour and cracked the eggs (usually all over myself LOL!)
