We have one, put it's mainly to keep the dogs in the kitchen when we go out...But I he plan on getting two more, one at the bottom and one at top of the stairs. I think I have time though, DS doesn't look like he is anywhere near crawling, he rolls everywhere though but I think I have at least a couple weeks?
My cousin gave me one baby gate, but I do not know the name. It's not installed and I don't leave DD unsupervised by the stairs yet.
I'm going to be buying a couple more in the next few weeks for the other set of stairs, so I will be paying attention to any strong recommendations here.
We don't have stairs but we do have a walk-thru gate setup between our living room and dining room. It's mainly to keep DD out of the dogs' water and food, but it's kind of nice to keep the dogs on the other side while she's playing. We also keep the bathroom and other bedroom doors closed so she can't sneak in there, but her nursery door is open.
We dont have stairs so I am not worried about those and I try to keep the hallways doors shut but with other kids in the house its kinda hard. They forget and leave them open. So I guess I will jsut have to go to babies r us r BBB and look.

We have one for our open stairs to the basement. Other than that we have a very open floor plan so I would have to get a really big gate. Like one of those play yards and just keep it across the room. I hate when she makes her way to the kitchen though. Other than that we keep the hallway doors closed. I have to keep reminding my uncle to keep the doors closed. He'll learn eventually.
We have put up 3 gates. One at the top of the stairs (a swing gate that mounts into the wall) and two pressure type gates to block off access to the computer area/cables and block access to the garage door and basement stairs.
My dog wasn't too happy about that. She moped around the house when the gates when up.

Baby #2 on the way!
We installed a step one at the stairs that lead down to the front door.
We have another pressure one down in the garage that we'll put on the stairs going up, once he starts climbing stairs.
