Infertility

Those with multiple snowbabies & are planning a S/ET

Hi Ladies

I saw a previous post where some ladies had more than one frozen embryo but are going to only transfer one.  We have three embryos and all three are frozen together thus all three will have to thaw. RE said we can 're-freeze' the ones we do not transfer. I am just wondering if you heard any success rates regarding them surviving the re-freeze and second thaw? Potentially I look at it as having three chances at one healthy baby... but I am afraid of it being too much on the little embryo and it not surviving. Would love to hear your feedback!

Oh and those cycling soon, are you doing anything to 'get ready' before your FET cycle?

TIA

  • I'm assuming mine are frozen separately (I was told one was done on day 5 and one on day 6), but I go in to sign my consent forms on Thursday, so I plan on clarifying.

I'm planning on starting BCP as soon as AF gets here (where the heck is she???) and will be doing a longer protocol - transfer at end of February.  Since I started back up on my bad caffeine habit I'm starting to cut back slowly (instead of cold turkey like last time) and I decided NYE was my last night of drinking alcohol.

  • Thank you Aegis... When we did our IVF it was such a quick decision and beginning (we were accepted into a clinical study) I really didn't have time to prepare physically or emotionally. I guess that is going to be the biggest difference for me.  Just trying to find some hope and faith before dropping off my BCP prescription at the pharmacy.

  • Oh and Aegis all three of ours were frozen in one straw, normally they are frozen in pairs. I wish mine had been at least frozen in pairs, I am so afraid of losing any by trying to thaw, re-freeze and thaw.

  • I'm sorry that you are having to make this decision. Just another crappy decision we are faced with! Are your frozen embies 3 day or 5 day? That might make a difference in how many I would transfer. Also- knowing the quality of each of them would be helpful to know.

What I have been told about re-freezing is that it can degrade the quality of the embryo making it potentially less likely to work. I asked my RE about this b/c I wanted to thaw our only frozen embryo to do testing on it and then refreeze it. He said he wouldn't recommend it.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

  • Thank you LaLa, I do not have a grade but I know that all three are blasts. They did not freeze the 9 morulas just the three blasts (was the only information they have given me). I know that at day three (because our fresh transfer was on day three) that one had zero frag and the other two had 5% frag. We were never given a grade.

    Thank you again

  • Luckily, I have two frozen alone and two frozen together.  We are going to make every effort for a singleton so we will do the two single first and then if they don't work, when we thaw the two frozen together we will transfer both.  My RE does not refreeze.  I am not sure why but he doesn't.

I am doing acupuncture, wheat grass tablets, started my baby aspirin already, folguard and prenatal (of course) and I also take metformin because of my PCOS.  So basically lots of pills. I am also doing yoga and going to the gym to try and be in as good as shape as possible because I know after the transfer I will not be able to work out.

    GL to you!

  • Folguard was a prescription from my RE when I did my first IVF. It is a high dose folate and B6 for the absorption. Maybe just take a high dose of folate in the mean time. Google Folgard but I think it is around 2000mg of Folate

    Update:

    Folgard Rx is:

    Folic Acid: 2.2 mg
    B6: 25 mg
    B12: 1mg

    OTC Folgard is only:

Folic Acid: 0.8 mg (800 mcg)
    B6: 10 mg
    B12: .115 mg (115 mcg)

  • Thank you Roxie! Was there a reason (something in your labs) that the doctor prescribed a higher dose of folic acid? TIA

It is a prescription.  It is because I have been diagnosed with MTHFR and do absorb folic acid and B vitamins correctly.
