NICU gift?

Our 30-weeker is due to come home in a day or two. We haven't had much notice (3 days), so planning an elaborate gift for the nurses is out of the question. But I'm wondering, what has been done by others or what you all might be planning on doing for your nurses.

Any ideas??

Re: NICU gift?

  • We didn't get organized enough when we were leaving to do anything. I took him back about a month ago and brought a ton of clementines and some Christmas cookies. From working in NICUs I can tell you, if you do food, consider bringing a healthy option as well. Sugar is great for long shifts, but sometimes in hospitals it feels like all there is to eat is doughnuts and cookies. Other ideas would be trail mix with paper cups to put it in or an edible arrangement. In the end, whatever you do will be appreciated!!

  • We had short notice too and we made a photo collage with different pictures of my son during his NICU stay and bought some cookies from a local bakery and put the picture on the box. We got great feedback from the nurses.

This exactly. One day hubby asked what they like getting as gifts b/c we knew it would have to be for the whole staff since they can't except individual gifts. She said they love getting chocolate and that the box never lasts long.
