Pregnant after IF

First OB appt?

I have my first OB appt on Friday. I was wondering what to expect. Do you think they will do an ultrasound if I had one at 9 wks and they will have all my medical records. I really want to see the baby again!

Re: First OB appt?

  • I think probably they will do an ultrasound even if you had one at 9 weeks.  My ob's nurse told me I'll have one at my first ob appointment at 11 (!) weeks, and it seemed like that would happen irrespective of when I had my last one at the RE.

  • I've had 2 with my RE (7w4d and 9w) and when I scheduled my first OB appointment, they said I'd still have one with them, which will be 10w3d.

  • I didn't have an u/s with my OB until I was 12 weeks.  My last u/s with my RE was at 7w4d and I saw my OB a week or so later, so they made me wait.

At my appt. he had a look under the hood, talked with me, and ordered blood work.

Good luck! I hope you get to see your LO.

  • My OB did an u/s even though I had one with RE the previous week- at their office, it's a standard part of the first appointment. At my first appt, they also did a pap smear, took a bunch of blood (they ended up repeating some stuff I had already done at the RE), took my history, and lots of time for Q&A. It was the longest appointment I've had by a lot.

After 2 1/2 years TTC, 3 IUI's, endo, and a lap, a surprise BFP brought us Alexandra Marie!

  • My OBs office doesn't actually do ultrasounds, they send you out to a separate radiology place, so they only do them when necessary.  If they are comfortable with the prior one and the records, they might not do another u/s.

  • My first OB appointment was at 10w2d, she did an internal u/s for measurements and I got one vial of blood taken for blood sugar levels. Your OB will probably mention an NT scan as well.

  • To be honest, my first OB was rather boring.  I think it was around 11 weeks.  My RE likes to follow his pg patients until 12ish weeks but I asked to be released sooner because RE was nearly an hour's drive from our home.  We had weekly u/s at our RE's office.

The 1st OB visit was more of an intake appt.  The nurse went over what is safe/what isn't, gave us tons of literature and books to read, and went over my past medical and reproductive history.  Then I saw the actual OB for all of 5 minutes.  He did a quick pelvic exam and that was it.  Didn't even use the doppler yet.  No u/'s was done but I had them weekly at RE's office and was scheduled to have one done at MFM very soon after that 1st OB visit.

    Good luck!!

  • I was released from my RE at 6w5d and I wasn't able to have my first appointment with my OB until I was 13w2d! It was a long wait to say the least! (I had stuff planned, and my OBGYN was on a trip, so that was the first date that worked).

At my first OB appt, they checked my urine and BP.  My OB did a Pap, went over some do's and don'ts, did medical history, went over the records from the RE, and then we chatted about questions that DH and I had.  She ordered a ton of bloodwork.  We also got to hear the baby's heartbeat with the doppler.

She didn't do an u/s, but did give us the prescription for the a/s scan so that we could set it up for 18 weeks.  For those scans, she sends them downstairs to the hospital radiology department and they fill up quickly.
