s/o birthdays

I may be a bad mom for not picking a theme for Z's 1st birthday, but it's just not that big of a deal to me. That being said, I know most of the rest of you probably are planning on a theme.

So spill it - what theme are you doing for your child(ren)'s birthday?

Re: s/o birthdays

  • I'm not having this huge elaborate event, it's just a cook-out at my parents but I am having a theme only because I loooove party planning and coordinating everything to look cohesive, plus I usually make my own stationary so I love doing all that stuff. I haven't decided, it's between a goldfish in fishbowl, light blue and orange or elefant light blue and red...

  • We don't really have a "theme" but I'm planning on doing most things rainbow colors. We aren't having a big blowout, just a few close friends and family. A few little games for the kids and food of course.

I had considered going really big with it, princess theme, me and close friends dressing up in our wedding dresses (an excuse to wear it again). But I think I will save that for a time when she will actually remember it.

I'm not sure yet.  Maybe an ocean/mermaid theme.  Or pink elephants.  I feel like all her clothes and toys this year had pink elephants on them.

I think pink elephants as a theme is ADORABLE!

This is funny because just the other day I was realizing that DS has a ton of elephant stuff - clothes, stuffed animals, toys, etc. The thing is, I didn't buy 90% of it. We just ended up with elephant stuff. It works, because I love elephants.

As far as a birthday party theme, I was tentatively thinking of "A Very Hungry Caterpillar" - not going all out, though. I was planning on having it in our backyard, and the theme lends itself to having fresh fruits and veggie plates, primary colors, and being outdoors. I was picturing something fun and simple. At most there will possibly be three kids there, ages 11 months to 18 months (including my own DS).

I also like the idea of waiting a little while and seeing what he really likes. He's in love with some maracas and musical toys we got him for Christmas, and DH is very into music, so maybe we'll do a musical theme. We'll see.

  • I also love doing crafty stuff & making decorations, so I'm all about planning her 1st Birthday!  I am thinking of doing a girl monkey theme.  I've pinned some cute stuff on Pinterest!

  • Probably no theme.  Just co-ordinating colors.  It will also be very small.....just inviting family (grandparent, aunts, uncles, cousins).

Hell....the only reason I'm doing anything more than just DH and I is bc hubby's cousin (LO is named for her father) told us she was flying down to FL from PA for his 1st birthday.

  • Owls. The cute adorable cartoon looking owls. I found an outfit at Gymboree that I want to buy for the party. Yep. I'm that mom and proud of it. I have a whole board dedicated to it on pintrest.

  • Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. I'm DIY'ing ears for all the kids that will be there, decorations, and the invitations. Hot dogs will be the main "food" item. I may be going a little overboard, but we didn't think DH would be here to celebrate, but he is, so I want it to be memorable for him.

Lots of primary colors in the plates, cups, balloons, etc, and then a BBQ with lots of veggie and fruit options.  Here is a picture of our cupcakes (the head was his smash cake):
