Failed 1 hour glucose

Blah. I'm mad but I know it's not a sign that I'm a horribly unhealthy person. I'm just kinda upset about it. I have the three hour on wednesday. Someone please tell me it's not my fault. I've been eatin so well and staying right on track with average weight gain.

Also I'm anemic so I'll be on an iron supplement. At least it should help with the exhaustion

Re: Failed 1 hour glucose

  • I also failed my 1-hr with DD, but I passed my 3-hr. It helped me at the time to hear that really, nothing I do can affect that test. It's a measure of how your body processes sugar while pregnant--either your body does it effectively or it doesn't.

Hope your 3-hr goes well. :-)

    Dear Bump: You suck.

  • when i was pg i was anemic and on an iron supplement. i also failed my one hour, but passed my 3 hr. :)

a lot of ladies on here failed the one hr but passed the 3 hr. it isn't your fault - your body can do all sorts of different things when you are pg.

THIS!!!  If you want something to blame, blame your placenta and all the keep-baby-healthy hormones it is releasing. These hormones, for some women, make it harder for the body to better metabolize glucose, thus resulting in gestational diabetes.

Further, lots of women who don't pass the 1-hr test go on to pass the 3-hr test. IF you don't pass the 3-hr, it is not the end of the world. It does not mean you can't enjoy your pregnancy. It does not mean you can not enjoy occasional treats. It does mean that you'll have to do tedious things like test your blood sugar and keep track of your numbers.  However, you and your baby will be healthy and just fine.  Don't fret! :)

  • I'm so sorry. I have my 1-hour test tomorrow and I'm totally dreading it for the feelings it could dredge up, similar to yours. Why is there just SO MUCH to feel guilty about?

  • Don't worry about it. It's not about how well you're eating.  I failed the 1 hour by so many points w/ A that I was 4 points away from being automatically diagnosed with GD. I passed the 3 hour w/ flying colors.

With N I failed the 1 hour but just a little.  So I thought it was smooth sailing for the 3 hour.  Wrong. I miserably failed and had GD.  It's your ability to process blood sugar while pg and it takes a lot more work. Sometimes your body can keep up and sometimes it can't.  But for most women it can. You'll likely be just fine.

Good luck w/ the 3 hour.

It's nothing that you can/can't do...it's not your fault!!  FX for the 3 hour!
