So as I sit here at work, 4 days past my due date... I am staring at my new 2012 calendar that is "Tropical Getaways" and the pictures are amazing. They have me yearning for a tropical vacation, and I had the thought of going on one next February, when LO is 13 months (this is our first child). Anyone ever done this? Is it feasible or am I just dreaming too much as I wait for LO to arrive any day now... Tropical to me means the Caribbean somewhere, or I'd settle for a nice Florida Keys vacation or something too. Anywhere where we can get sun and sand in February...
Re: Tropical vacation with a 1-year old?
I think a tropical getaway would be easier than a non-tropical getaway (ie: touring Rome, Paris, etc). At 12-13 months they'll be walking or close to it, and would enjoy being outside in the sand and water.
I have many friends that take yearly vacations to Myrtle or a NC beach and they didn't stop when their LOs came along. I say go for it!!
we took DS to hawaii for 2.5 weeks when he was one year old (turned 13 months while we were there).
It was great! we stayed with friends, stayed in a hotel AND got a vacation rental with family. The vacation rental is by far my recommendation because of having the kitchen and another room to go into if LO isn't STTN or gets up early or whatever. But the hotel was totally doable too. And of course staying with people is always nice (well, depending on the people!)
I say go for it. We had a great time.
We took DS to Hawaii (a 9 hr flight) when he was 8 months. It was awesome!!!
GO FOR IT!

That's great, that's where we have gone a few times in the past and loved it! Wasn't sure about taking LO "out of the country" but sounds like it is totally doable. Puerto Rico is probably one of the places we'd be debating between. Oh I am getting excited already... I've been copying and pasting the replies and emailing them to DH, as if he needs convincing...
Yup PR is great because it's not too far and still kind of the US and it's nice that currency is the same. We traveled a lot via rental car so make sure you BRING your own car seat and stroller.
We went all over and DD loved it. We even went off to the little island of Vieques via ferry and had an AWESOME time there. We stayed at the W resort and only stayed for 3 nights (it was all we could afford) and it was hands down the BEST part of the trip. Vieques was like HEAVEN. I highly highly recommend Vieques!
