Labor with DD was pretty damn quick for a first timer. I've been terrified that I won't make it this time (hospital is almost an hour away) and this story does not help me feel any better.
Re: This birth story freaks me out
But...she had her bloody show at 9:20, and didnt arrive at the hospital until 11? Unless I read it wrong.
I was worried I woulnt make it either, because I was a 4 at home for quite awhile. The doctor actually gave me a list of hospitals that were closer in case I felt I had to hurry up. Is there a closer hospital you could keep in mind to ease your worry?
I was 3cm on 1/6, my first contraction was at 1:30 on 1/9 and I was 8cm and baby was "way low" when we got to the hospital at 3:30. I didn't have DD until 10:46, BUT that was because they made me wait to break my water until the next doctor arrived (the other one was on hour 19 of a 24 hour shift and didn't feel comfortable delivering me if he didn't have to). Who knows how fast it would've gone if they'd broken it right away.
There is a hospital right up the street, and also the Army hospital (but they can turn me away if they want to). Between our town and my hospital there is nothing but road and trees for about 25 mins. Then it's either my hospital or the other one in that town, and they're right next door to each other.
I'm just hoping that DH is not in the field at the time because then I'd have to go through the Red Cross just to get a message to him.
Wow, thats crazy!! Also, why could the army hospital turn you away?
The hospital is reserved for soldiers and family who are on Tricare Prime. I have Tricare Standard (which is great because I can go to any doctor instead of theirs), so if the hospital is full or close to full, they can turn me away so they have room for their people.
There is a huge baby boom right now because the whole base is home from deployment. The first babies started coming in September, and it'll be busy for quite a while because the last of the troops didn't return until July.
Wow. In that case I wouldnt even bother trying to go to that one!
That is an amazing story. Made me cry a little tear.
I can't believe a hospital could possibly say "Your baby is falling out of your vag, but sorry no vacancies. Maybe next time." They'd have to take you I would think!!
But I agree with Marsam - go to yours. Have someone drive super fast. And have someone ready to take you and watch DD1.
LOL This cracks me up MrsLD you are too funny! SweetH I hope you make it in time with time to settle.
My Granny's sister had all 5 of her kids at home because they couldn't make it to the hospital with a single one or get a doctor in time. They lived on a farm in a very rural community and she told me start to finish was never more than 1.5 hours! Her husband delivered them all.
Holy cow!!! I remember while I was pushing seeing H look down there, even though he said he wasnt going to. I yelled "DON'T LOOK!!! UGH!!!!"
lol. I am one of those people who can't look at stuff like that. Can't believe your granny's husband delivered 5!! H would have blacked out!! lol
H agreed not to look, but then did anyways (and has since told all of his soon-to-be-a-daddy friends that they HAVE TO look). He was fine up until the placenta. I don't think he was prepared for that nastiness.
