April 2012 Moms

I just drank the Kool-aid

I got the fruit punch flavor, it was really cold so it wasn't that bad. It reminded me of that fruit punch I used to drink as a kid that came in those big blue cans (I can't remember the name).

So, now I wait. LO is super active, he's bouncing around all over the place.

I do have a question though, I also have 3rd trimester bloodwork today too, does anyone else's OB order this?  My OB office does a 2nd screen for HIV and Hep-B plus they recheck antibodies and hemoglobin levels and they test for RPR, does anyone know what RPR is?

  • Now I'm trying to think of the fruit punch in the blue can.  Was it Hawaiian Tropic?

Also, I don't remember having 3rd tri bloodwork.

  • RPR is for syphilis. It's a required test in many states, often at multiple points along the pregnancy (1st tri, 3rd tri, and both mom & baby at birth).

Thanks. So it looks like this is pretty much a repeat of my 1st tri bloodwork. It's a shame that these tests have to be done so frequently because it feels like you can't be trusted to have a safe, sexual relationship with your partner. It's the same reason I have to get Rhogam without testing blood type on DH because the incidences where the husband isn't the father is so high. **sigh**

  • Yeah, it really is sad that they can't rely on the mother to practice safe sex or be monogamous for 9 months, but it's the physician and/or state's job to look after the well being of the baby, not the parent's feelings. Nevertheless, it's annoying, particularly when you get billed for the co-pay.

  • Was the old school blue can drink hawaiin punch maybe? Yeah, I have to get all of those blood draws that you mentioned too when I go..

Same for me.  My doctor said she has instances where the dad wasn't the husband and the mom lied about it. Oh well!  I had my one hour test, my RH shot, and my US last visit.  I drank the orange flavored drink and I swear it tasted almost exactly like the orange drink we used to get at holiday parties in grade school that came in a cardboard container. I felt like I should be doing a Christmas word search or passing out Valentine's Day cards....  he he!

  • I had my GTT this morning, too. They gave me the orange one, which was repulsive. Luckily, I've retained my college chugging skills, and I downed the bottle in one quick gulp. I got a few side-eyes from the other ladies in the waiting room, but I got my revenge when they were still sipping and grimacing a few minutes later. I was really faint when I left and almost passed out while waiting for my bagel order at a nearby deli.

  • I have my 1 hour test in 2 weeks, and yes I'll also be having blood drawn. I think it's just to check iron levels but I'm not 100% sure...
